5 Ways to Soothe Foot Pain

From injury and overuse to uncomfortable shoes and inflammation, there are a variety of factors that can cause foot pain. Aside from the occasional pedicure, many of us tend to forget to care for the one body part that tends to need it the most.

If you’re in need of some quick relief, Lantana Spa at the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa shares five ways to soothe pain and rejuvenate tired feet.

1. Employ moist heat.

Soak your feet in a basin of warm water or a store-bought foot spa for 5-10 minutes, adding 1-2 tablespoons per gallon of Epsom salts to the water for an added soothing effect. However, if your feet are swollen, hot, or tired, use cool water instead and put your feet up for half an hour or more after the soak.

2. Stretch your feet.

A good time to stretch your feet is after a warm soak when your muscles will be relaxed. Sit in a comfortable position and stretch the ankle and toe joints using your hands. Stretching your feet and ankles when you get in bed every night will also help.

3. Give your feet a workout.

Unless they’ve already had a full workout throughout the day. Flexing your ankles, feet, and toes will help stretch, strengthen, and relax them.

4. Massage your feet.

Apply oil or lotion to the soles of your feet and massage while applying gentle pressure to any sore areas. Other ways to massage the feet are by using a foot roller or a foot spa with built-in massage.

5. Consider a professional foot massage.

The Revitalizing Foot Massage offered by Lantana Spa invigorates the feet, ankles and lower legs. The calves and feet are massaged with energizing peppermint and stimulating horse chestnut to enhance circulation. Feet are then cocooned in stimulating, aromatic steamed towels that awaken the senses from head to toe.
