A Look at The Pearl Laguna's Yoga, Hiking and Cleansing Retreats

The Pearl Laguna Beach Yoga

Nestled in the sage covered hills of Laguna Canyon, The Pearl Laguna has offered week-long and multi-week-long yoga, hiking and cleansing retreats for the last 10 years. World-renowned yogis Geo and Katresha, based the Pearl Laguna experience on a series of pillars that support the body, mind and spirit through the transformative power of yoga and nature. Through a combination of natural exercise, healthy food, rest and positive loving thoughts, the retreats hit a sweet spot between meditative calm and invigorating activity.

Each day at this luxurious stone mansion, a 12-room, 14-bath ashram decorated with orchids, seashells and organic bedding, guests begin at sunrise with lemon water and Geo’s power yoga in an airy studio with vaulted ceilings and floors covered with colorful Tibetan rugs, which sit under healing colored lights.

Afterwards, a delicious breakfast of poached and grilled fruits, yogurts, nuts, seeds and herbal tea is served before guests depart for a three-hour hike in the surrounding hills. Expert guides (some have been with The Pearl Laguna since it opened) lead guests on Laguna Canyon trails with sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean. Every season is beautiful in Laguna Beach with an average temperature of 70 degrees year round. On Fridays, the hike along a 10-mile stretch overlooking the Pacific ends with a picnic lunch at a secluded cove.

Hiking at The Pearl Laguna

After lunch, afternoons at The Pearl Laguna are reserved for rest and rejuvenation. A state-of-the art outdoor, infrared sauna is available as well as an indoor green light sauna for relaxation. Guests receive daily foot baths to remove toxins, indoor and outdoor massages under the lemon pergola, sound therapy, workshops in tai chi, energy work, Pilates, a dip in the saltwater Jacuzzi, weight training in the gym and a self-applied facial mask from Katresha’s own flower-infused, organic skin care line.

At The Pearl Laguna, delicious alkaline meals—meant to achieve optimal health and cleanse the body—are lovingly prepared using locally sourced organic vegetables, herbs, fruits and non-gluten grains and are served in the sun-filled great room, outdoor spaces and the candlelit dining room.

Geo and Katresha, co-founders of The Pearl Laguna, offer insight into why a visit to this unique Southern California retreat is a transformative experience:

Why You’ll Love It: Guests of The Pearl Laguna tell us they love our personal loving energy and feeling renewed and revitalized after spending a week with us.

Key Features: Yoga, hiking, cleansing vegetarian diet, therapeutic massages, salt water jacuzzi and infra-red sauna.

Bonus: We offer daily self-applied facial masks made exclusively by The Pearl Laguna and Katresha Pure Skin Care.

Insider’s Tip: We adjust our yoga to the person, not the person to the yoga.

Retreat Snacks: Fresh organic juices are served after each hike and a healing vegetable broth is served before evening yoga. Calming after meal teas are home blended and sipped in The Pearl Laguna’s garden from a variety of herbs, such as lemongrass and spearmint, grown on the property.

Created from produce from an on-site vegetable garden as well as local farms, ingredients vary with the season and include breakfast poached fruit, compotes and yogurt, colorful lunch salads with healthy house-made dressings or sushi-style hand rolls with mango, forbidden rice, avocado, cucumber, carrots and micro greens grown by a local farmer.

Pamper Treatments: Daily therapeutic massages are included in our program. We also offer foot baths and soaks for rejuvenation.

Healing Treatments: At the end of each week, Geo and Katresha offer chakra healing, a health assessment with colored crystals that correspond to the seven chakras. Guests then gather in the great room in front of a roaring stone fireplace to enjoy Katresha’s Healing Broth and informal chats.

Healing light therapy, which Geo learned from a Buddhist monk in India, is used throughout The Pearl Laguna; in the yoga room red light is used to wake up the body while blue and green lights are used at the end of the day for relaxation and healing. The indoor sauna uses healing green light. “We are all affected by color,” says Geo. “Since fruits and vegetables get their color from the sun, we eat and breathe color.
