Accor Hotels Shares 6 Leading Wellness Trends

After the past few years, there has been a pent-up demand for wellness experiences as more people return to normal travel routines. World-leading hospitality group Accor recently launched Health to Wealth, a new podcast series that addresses the current state of well-being and the defining issues of our time.

Created by the Accor Well-Being team and curated by Well Intelligence, the podcast engages a diverse group of global change makers including Thierry Malleret and Olaf Blanke.

“The goal of hospitality is to provide a warm welcome, a spirit of caring, and a sense of well-being,” says Emlyn Brown, Global Vice President, Well-Being, Accor. “As a global leader of hospitality, Accor has led the industry in moving wellness matters beyond the traditional walls of spas and fitness centers into everything we do—from hotel operations to food & beverage, room design and so much more. We are excited to debut Health to Wealth and take our mission of care to the next level, convening a diverse group of innovative minds to act as a positive force for change that we hope will inspire mental and physical wholeness and a greater sense of well-being in what is a very complex and ever-changing world.”

Accor shares six leading wellness trends that are emerging across its North American hotels:

1. Kombucha

Kombucha, a fermented and lightly effervescent beverage touted for its health benefits, is now finding a home on menus and in cocktails. At Fairmont Empress in Victoria, B.C., locally-brewed kombucha from Salt Spring Island is served at Q Bar, while Fairmont Pacific Rim’s Lobby Lounge and Raw Bar serves a Moondance Cocktail made with kombucha, White O-Five Rare tea, yuzu juice and mint.

2. Biohacking

Through an exclusive partnership with biohacking expert, Dr. Oz Garcia, the recently reimagined Fairmont Century Plaza, which boasts a 14,000 square-foot Fairmont Spa designed to deliver wellness experiences beyond those currently available in the luxury market, is reinventing wellness culture with a biohacking treatment: a customized approach to recovery, well-being and anti-aging.

Using a curated sequence combining elements like infrared technology, neuroscience technology, and meditation all while in an anti-gravity state, biohacking offers an all-natural solution to improve sleep quality, resolve stress and support mindfulness.

3. Immunity-Boosting Rituals

Taking care of your immune system has become increasingly important, and many hotels are putting wellness first with rituals that aim to boost one’s natural defenses. At Fairmont Scottsdale Princess, magnesium–an important mineral that helps support muscle and nerve function, regulate blood pressure, and strengthen the immune system–is front and center in the Magnesium Massage, a healing treatment that uses magnesium-infused hot towels and heat-driven muscle repair to replenish levels in the body.

The geo-thermal mineral pools at Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa are fed by an ancient thermal mineral spring, flowing from 1,100 feet below the resort and containing 27 different minerals.

In San Diego, Fairmont Grand Del Mar invites guests to discover one of the oldest, richest and simplest ritual practices, which combines the healing power of water, contrasting temperatures and repetition to restore balance to the nervous system and promote cellular exchange.

At Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, located in Canada’s Rocky Mountain region, guests can experience the Mineral Immunity treatment to exfoliate dull skin with a eucalyptus-infused body scrub before submerging in a Mineral Wellness Soak, followed by a Thermal Mineral Shower and Bath Gel which harnesses the power of magnesium, colloidal silver and calcium.

4. Adaptogens

Accor hotels are embracing the use of adaptogens, natural substances that alleviate stress and anxiety, by adding them to food, drinks, soaks, and treatments. Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge offers adaptogenic treatments at the spa and in-room spa kits.

The Anda Vital Nutrient Facial combines specialized Gua Sha techniques with multi-function organic products rich in adaptogenic vital nutrients to transform skin. The Anda Luxury Regimen In-Room Spa Kit delivers the spa experience right to your guest room, with a Super Nutrient Balm jam packed with adaptogens to promote cell rejuvenation.

5. Zero-Proof Cocktails

Hotels are getting ever more creative when it comes to zero-proof libations and are treating them with the same craft and “spirt” as the real thing. From incorporating honey harvested on site and making herb syrups, to tapping into locally distilled non-alcoholic spirits, guests who want a buzz-less drink can look forward to artisanal beverages that are innovative and full of flavor.

Fairmont Empress Zero Proof Cocktail List features riffs on the Cosmo and Espresso Martini with the “Cosno” and “Espresso Martino”, and Fairmont Washington D.C., Georgetown's mocktails “Vacay Mode” and “Into the Garden” feature Seedlip non-alcoholic spirits. Dry July has never been more appealing.

6. Fit on the Fly

Accor hotels are taking staying healthy on the road one step further with in-room exercise and meditation equipment and wellness therapies. Fairmont Vancouver Airport recently introduced a new Fit of the Fly Suite, featuring a Peloton Bike, FITBENCH ONE filled with dumbbells, kettlebells, a slam ball, and FITBANDS, and in-room Nordic hydrotherapy. Guests can also look forward to head-to-toe Fairmont Fit apparel waiting for them on arrival, so there’s no need to squeeze extra gear into their carry-on.

In Chicago, Swissôtel’s Vitality Suite spans over 1,700 square feet and five rooms, including a Wellbeing Wall with a Peloton bike and water rowing machine, to offer a sanctuary with enhanced amenities designed to boost the body’s natural circadian rhythms and promote a good night’s sleep.
