Beauty Boss: Casey Georgeson, Founder of Saint Jane

Casey Georgeson.

Our latest Beauty Boss is Casey Georgeson, Founder of Saint Jane—an award-winning luxury line of floral-infused, clean skincare products that calm and soothe skin. Having spent her career creating wine and beauty brands for Sephora and The Wine Group, Georgeson later became a beauty entrepreneur and created her company with her own sensitive, stressed skincare needs in mind.

With her extensive background in creating formulas, Georgeson discovered a powerful and effective way to treat skin irritation with clean blends of potent botanicals that are sacred and effective. Saint Jane pays homage to an actual saint who dedicated her life to healing women and Georgeson is passionate about empowering women to be their best. Her company supports various causes including Girls Crushing It, Lipstick Angels, Loveland Foundation, and National Bailout in order to help give girls and women brighter futures.

We chatted with Georgeson, who shared the inspiration behind the brand, secrets for success, wellness tips, favorite beauty products, and much more.

When was Saint Jane founded and what does the name mean?

Our brand is inspired by Saint Jane who lived in 1500s France and dedicated her life to healing women that society shunned—the very old, sick, unwed mothers—in her honor we take a deeply healing-centric approach to skin care.

What inspired the creation of the brand?

I‘ve created brands in beauty and wine during my career, from Marc Jacobs Beauty to Cupcake Vineyards. I always wanted to create my own brand, but knew that being a founder would be all consuming. I’d always hesitated because I worried it would be too much time away from my three young daughters. Then one day, a friend suggested that I create a brand with the girls! And that is exactly what I did—I created a brand inspired by women with a mission of healing.

I did it for my daughters and for everyone who suffers from skin stress. I knew with my background in creating formulas that I could really disrupt the skincare industry—and that is exactly what we have done with Saint Jane. I love working with flowers in our products, they are delicate but strong, soft but powerful. They’ve been known for centuries to calm and soothe the skin. We take a modern approach to their ancient rituals.

Does Saint Jane have a hero product?

Luxury Sun Ritual because it’s an all-in-one primer, pore minimizer, hydrators and sun protector! And Luxury Beauty Serum because it calms literally every skin stress on earth. It’s packed with antioxidant and antibacterial nutrients that soothe and balance redness, irritation and inflammatory complexions—it’s liquid gold.

Saint Jane Superflower Detox ($88) is packed with millions of comprehensive micronutrients to purify and balance the complexion with gentle florals, antioxidants and essential vitamins.

What are your favorite products from the brand?

We have a small assortment of only 10 formulas—each is infused with flowers known for centuries to help the skin, focused on solving skin stress. But I will say I use Luxury Sun Ritual and Hydrating Petal Cream together religiously.

Where are Saint Jane products sold?

On our website, Sephora, Credo, Goop, Neiman Marcus, and luxury spas and resorts like Four Seasons, Auberge, Ritz and Fairmont.

Future plans for the brand?

We’re grateful to be growing and hope to continue inspiring your skincare journeys with healing, calming products made with nutrient-rich flowers from around the world. We support small farms cultivated by women. Our rose oil is sourced from Bulgaria’s Valley of the Roses where women have nurtured and picked the flowers for the last 300 years.

Who inspires you?

My great-grandmother was a mail order bride from Italy in 1900. She married my great-grandfather and had eight children, but only seven survived into adulthood. They had vineyards and grew grapes in the San Joaquin Valley in California. One day during the Great Depression and the crippling Prohibition, she marched into the Bank of Italy and asked for a $10,000 loan. She used $5,000 to fund her sons, the Franzia brothers; and $5,000 to fund her son-in-law, Ernest Gallo, to start wineries. A 4-foot, 10-inch mail order bride from Italy started two of the largest wine companies in the world—all while her husband was away in Italy. She’s one of our country’s first female entrepreneurs and I’m so proud of her.

Infused with nutrient-rich flowers like desert rose, jasmine and hibiscus, Saint Jane Luxury Sun Ritual ($38) is a luxuriously clean, mineral SPF 30 that acts as a primer, hydrator, pore minimizer and sun protection in one.

Secret to success?

Have passion and be kind. Passion will be your spark to make your dreams successful. It keeps you going during the hard days, and there are a lot of those! If you treat everyone you meet with compassion and kindness, with respect for their own journeys, you will get that back in spades. I always tell my daughters that the energy you put out in the world is the energy you get back. I believe in that deeply.

Beauty secrets?

Drink a ton of water! It’s an oldie but goodie piece of advice. Exfoliate one a week. Eat a ton of greens. Try not to eat sugar. Coffee is amazing but it dehydrates skin so drink sparingly. I’ve also come to learn that alcohol ages you from the inside out. If I have a glass of wine (or three), I match a glass of water for every pour. Stay out of the sun unless you’re slathered in SPF and never, ever tan your face.

Wellness tips?

Sleep at least eight hours…I need nine. Exercise for 15 minutes daily—I walk or jump in front of the TV each morning. I also love HIIT workouts, which have been shown to reduce stress. I’ve learned that breathing deeply through your nose is proven to have incredible health benefits. I also believe that reminding yourself to be grateful is the biggest wellness secret we have. If you remind yourself how full you are and how much you’ve been blessed with, everything else feels healthier, brighter and more balanced.

How do you like to relax?

I love going for walks at the beach where I live with my husband and daughters. We inevitably talk about our feelings and how we can solve the world’s problems. As my girls get older, their perspectives on the world are changing and becoming so insightful. My happiest moments are relaxing with them.
