#BeautyBoss: Marcella Cacci, Founder & CEO of One Ocean Beauty

Marcella Cacci.

This week’s #BeautyBoss is Marcella Cacci, Founder and CEO of One Ocean Beauty—a line of clean skincare products that are centered around extraordinary marine ingredients and peptides. The brand sources its ingredients responsibly through blue biotechnology and does not harvest from the oceans. All products are cruelty-free and Leaping Bunny certified, and both inner and outer packaging are 100% recyclable.

The world’s oceans serve as the inspiration for the One Ocean Beauty, which contributes to the preservation and restoration of the oceans through a partnership with Oceana—the largest global, science-based organization that works with governments to change policies and protect the oceans. In addition, a portion of each One Ocean Beauty product purchased goes towards helping the oceans.

We chatted with Cacci, who talks inspiration, shares wellness and beauty tips, future plans for her brand, and more.

When was One Ocean Beauty founded and what does the name mean?

We launched One Ocean Beauty in late 2018. It took two years to develop our clean formulations—no easy feat. We named our brand One Ocean because we believe that everyone in the world is linked by the same body of water, which we all share and need to take care of now and for the future: One Ocean, One Planet, One People.

The ocean is in our DNA. Our name is One Ocean, our formulations are based on marine active ingredients, our packaging is the ocean, and our giveback is to the ocean. We are the exclusive Beauty and Wellness Partner of Oceana and are committed to protecting and restoring the oceans on a global scale.

What inspired the creation of the brand?

My background is luxury fashion and beauty. A number of years ago, I started to change my lifestyle to be cleaner and more sustainable. Whilst doing that, I noticed that there seemed to be two sides of the beauty spectrum: clean products that are not clinically proven to be effective and clinically-proven products that are not clean. So there seemed to be a white space for high-performance, clean, and clinically-proven products.

At the same time, on a personal level, I grew up at the beach and the ocean brings balance and happiness into my life. The current plight of the oceans is very concerning. I felt that if I could create a brand that was dedicated to helping the oceans, this would be a win-win.

Does One Ocean Beauty have a hero product?

We are often asked this question, but we built a very simple, multi-tasking system and each of our products is a standout in its own right. Our best sellers would be our Marine Collagen, Replenishing Deep Sea Moisturizer and Bioactive Body Sculpting Marine Cream.

What are your favorite products from the brand?

My favorite product is the Revitalizing Sea Serum. There are four active ingredients all at full clinically-proven strength—I swear by it.

Where are your products sold?

Our website, Net-A-Porter, Goop and Neiman Marcus, plus select specialty stores.

One Ocean Beauty is a line of clean skincare products centered around extraordinary marine ingredients and peptides that also does good for the oceans.
