Beauty Boss: Shinji Yamasaki, Founder & CEO of RE:ERTH

Shinji Yamasaki.

Our latest Beauty Boss is Shinji Yamasaki, Founder of RE:ERTH—a skincare brand that combines the Japanese zen way of life with cutting-edge technology and roots itself in patented nature-derived ingredients, Japanese wellness principles, and science-backed technology. After spending years working in capital cities across the world in finance, insurance, and medical devices, Yamasaki eventually joined his family’s business, which owns distributorships for international health and beauty brands.

Since launching in 2017, the brand has been an award-winning best seller in Singapore, and now their products are available in the United States. Their unique ingredients are backed by studies from educational institutions such as Oxford and Kindai Universities, and one of their special innovations is Japanese White Turmeric, which is grown exclusively on their farms in the Kyushu region of Japan.

The Health and Beauty Benefits of Turmeric

For years the plant had been grown for its flowers and roots that were consumed as tea, but a local farmer who noticed the leaves were being discarded reached out to Professor Komai, who at the time was the Head of Agriculture at Kindai University in Japan. Professor Komai began to research its properties and over time, RE:ERTH’s Multi-Targeted Elixir was developed.

Since then, the line has continued to expand and continues to offer a minimalist approach to skin care with a wide range of fast-absorbing products that are great for all skin types. We chatted with Yamasaki, who discussed the brand’s exclusive ingredient, shared success tips and best advice, and more.

When was RE:ERTH founded? What does the name mean?

We launched in Singapore on October 5, 2017, but our products were in development for many years before that. RE:ERTH is an abbreviation of “Re-encountering Earth."

What inspired the creation of the brand?

Our aim is to combine effective and well-researched nature-derived ingredients with cutting-edge cosmetic science. We want to create well-formulated and effective products to help people achieve healthier skin.

Does RE:ERTH have a hero product?

Yes, our Multi-Targeted Elixir! It contains the leaf and root extracts of our proprietary Japanese White Turmeric, which only grows on our farms in the Kyushu region of Japan. Additionally, it it has Japanese Spring Turmeric, which we also have a patent on; and APPS, a water and oil soluble vitamin C, all encapsulated in a state of the art dermal delivery system called LIPODISQ®, which helps to achieve healthy, supple, and brighter skin.

What are your favorite products from the brand?

Definitely the Multi-Targeted Elixir. The LIPODISQ® really allows the product to get absorbed within 10 seconds and leaves the skin completely residue free, so I can get right on with my day. Additionally, because it works with my skin, the more often I use it the healthier my skin is.

Where are RE:ERTH products sold?

We can currently be found on our website

Future plans for the brand?

Lots of plans! We pride ourselves in providing unique products with unique ingredients and technologies, with a slightly different take on skin care. As a result, we are constantly searching for and testing new concepts, ingredients, and formulations. We have a few interesting things in the pipeline.

The Multi-Targeted Elixir ($29-$85) is a lightweight serum that brightens and rejuvenates skin from within with smaller pores, reduced dark spots, and firmer, healthier skin.

What inspires you?

My parents are definitely at the top of that list.

Secret to success?

Teamwork and open communication. I think it's unrealistic to think that a single individual can know and do everything. The best strategies, solutions, and operations come from a team that can openly discuss issues and work together for a common goal.

Beauty secrets?

Consistency, consistency, consistency!

Wellness tips?

I love working out, so I would say find an exercise (walking, swimming, dancing, etc.) that you enjoy and go do it!

Best advice?

Don’t make excuses, make yourself accountable, and give support to those who need it.

Favorite ways to relax?

I really like plants, in particular succulents and cacti, so I spend time on the weekends tending to them.
