Celebrate Man's First Walk on the Moon at Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas Resort

Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas Resort is hosting ‘The Eagle Has Landed Celebration’ on July 20, 2019.

This summer, celebrate the 50th anniversary of Man’s first walk on the moon at Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas Resort, which is hosting a special ‘The Eagle Has Landed Celebration’ on July 20, 2019. The resort is located on Baa Atoll, which is one of the best places in the world to enjoy moon and stargazing due to its proximity to the equator and non-polluted skies.

Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas Resort is also home to SKY, the Maldives’ first and only overwater observatory, which features a research-grade 16” Meade LX200 telescope that is digitally controlled with 360˚ movement. The custom-built Ash-dome observatory sits on the roof deck of the resort’s Sky Bar, surrounded by nothing but open skies and the ocean waves below.

The resort’s resident Sky Guru, Ali Shameem, is a native Maldivian who grew up on an island without electricity. He spent the last decade observing the stars as a professional astronomer, and shares his passion and expertise through weekly stargazing experiences with the resort’s guests.

The Sky bartenders have created a signature cocktail, The ‘Buzz’ Aldrin, to celebrate the 50th anniversary occasion.

The 50th anniversary celebration includes a variety of fun and unique offerings:

  • 4 A.M. Stargazing Breakfast. Enjoy unobstructed views of the stars during the early morning hours while Shameem shares stories of the night skies. Indulge in a four-course breakfast that includes chilled champagne and lobster Benedict while looking through the powerful telescope. Cost is $450 per person.

  • The “Buzz” Aldrin Cocktail. The Sky bartenders have created a signature drink, which will be served complimentary to all on-property guests.

  • Drinks in the Sky Bar. The panorama luxury cocktail lounge is perched over the lagoon, which maximizes ocean views from every vantage point and is the spot to enjoy Indian Ocean sunsets.

  • The Sky Overwater Observatory. The custom-built Ash-dome observatory sits on the roof deck of the Sky Bar surrounded by open skies and the ocean waves below. The observatory houses a research-grade Meade 16” LX200 telescope mounted on a super-giant field tripod that is digitally controlled with 360˚ movement to open up the night sky.

  • Stargazing With a Sky Guru. Sip on champagne and feast on Asian tapas while sky guru Shameem shares fascinating stories about the sky, moon, stars, and planets.
