Celebrating Mother's Day at the Spa

*This article was written by Scarlette Mosley

For all the mothers in our life, from Mom to Grandma and Aunty Penny, Mother’s Day is the one day of the year where we can make it clear how much we appreciate them. With many women feeling under more stress than ever before, celebrating Mother’s Day at a spa gives her some much needed relaxing “me” time with the ultimate gift of indulgence. Do the planning and organizing so that she can truly relax and feel energized from her spa day.

Planning

To ensure that the Mother’s Day celebration at the spa will be the best experience, make all the preparations beforehand so she can be relaxed for the entire day. Start by choosing a day when she can block out a few hours from her schedule. This allows her to decide if she wants to be pampered alone or with her daughter or girlfriends if she wants someone with her to make her laugh and relax.

Whilst a spa day is a wonderful experience, it’s always nice to celebrate our mothers with a special gift. You mother deserves unique gifts for Mother's Day, like a thank you letter from you or something you have made just for her. Alternatively, find a unique gift for the home that she can see each day as a reminder of your appreciation.

Where to go

If there is a spa that your mom already enjoys, book some time there or try out a luxurious spa for this special occasion. If she is taking a vacation around Mother’s Day, see if you can book her a reservation at a destination spa or pamper her at at a resort, gifting her the spa menu so she knows what treatments are available. Make sure the staff are friendly, from the front desk through to the technicians. For some, the spa experience helps women decide to make a few small changes that will benefit their health on a daily basis and so they develop good habits.

Scheduling the day

You can book your mom at the spa for a couple of hours or book a half-day package. You will want to book a massage, but research the types of massage offered to find the one that will suit her best, as deep tissue massages can feel wonderful but can be also painful for those who are sensitive. A Swedish massage is good for beginners starting out.

If your mother is nervous or anxious about what will happen, find the information to allay her fears. If she fears being exposed when having a massage, typically only part of the body that is being worked on is exposed. She does not have to have a massage—you can also book her a facial, as well as a spa manicure and pedicure.

A good spa menu should explain the treatments so she can decide whether she wants a body scrub to feel relaxed or energized, or a deep cleansing treatment that will make her skin look and feel great. If she opts for a mother-daughter spa day, remember to book a massage for two since a couple’s massage is not just for lovers.

A spa menu will usually offer package deals. An example of a three-hour package could include a luxurious massage and facial, as well as a body polish. If you want to help her unwind, a Swedish massage, facial, foot soak and massage will help her relax. If she only has a couple of hours, her treatment package could include a facial peel and a neck, back and shoulder massage.

Specialty Treatments

Each spa is different, but many will offer specialty treatments such as a brow and lash tint using natural dye or exfoliation. Adding something new can open up new ways of relaxing and feeling good, so try a steam bath or sauna for relaxation. In addition, spas often include manicures and pedicures, as well as hair styling services.
