Costa Rica's ORIGINS Lodge Adds Tii Cacao Body Treatment to Spa Offerings
Cacao beans are considered sacred by the indigenous people of Costa Rica and are commonly made into chocolate beverages for special rituals and celebrations. Historically, cocoa was used as currency by certain tribes and also known as the “food of the gods.”

ORIGINS Lodge, a luxurious lodge located in Costa Rica’s northern rainforest jungle, pays tribute to the historic and medicinal qualities of cacao with the addition of a brand-new spa service to its menu of wellness offerings at Laka Tii Spa Suite.
The 90-minute Tii Cacao Body Treatment is specially designed for guests seeking a heart-opening and energizing experience that will further their wellness journey during their visit.
The cacao beans, which are grown on property at ORIGINS Lodge, are used to make a hot ceremonial beverage that is served at the beginning of the treatment, as well as in a full-body scrub. After consuming the cacao drink, which cleanses the chakras and allows energy to flow, guests are then treated to a scrub made with cacao and organic coffee that is applied by a therapist to the body for 20 minutes to help detoxify.
After the scrub is removed in the shower, the therapist covers the guest’s body in a mixture of volcanic clay and anisillo leaves that is left to dry. After the clay has been removed, skin is moisturized with a cacao and coffee lotion. A soothing massage is also available as an additional add-on service.
“With a strong focus on cultivating the health of our guests, we are excited to continue to expand our wellness treatment and therapy offerings to create an all-encompassing experience designed to heal the mind, body, and soul,” says Claudia Silva, General Manager of ORIGINS Lodge.
