DIY Dermaplaning: We Tried Dermaflash and Here Are the Results

Dermaflash 2.0

Dermaflash Founder Dara Levy once owned a luxury med spa in Chicago and saw dermaplaning as the skincare wave of the future. If you’re unfamiliar with dermaplaning, it’s an exfoliation method where an esthetician gently uses a surgical blade to remove dead skin cells and peach fuzz on your face. It can cost up to $200 a session, making it an expensive skincare habit to maintain, but the result is smoother brighter skin. Totally worth it!

Dara Levy, Founder of Dermaflash

Dara wanted to help women take personal skincare into their own hands, so she sold her spa and focused on creating a product that women could use at home to achieve similar effects. Dara shares, “As a female entrepreneur, I am constantly striving to create products that empower women to look and feel their best.” The result was Dermaflash, a safe and hygienic at-home dermaplaning device.

My Dermaflash Experience

A few years ago, I stopped by the launch event for Dermaflash 2.0 to try it out (The newest versions of Dermaflash include Dermaflash Luxe ($199) and Dermaflash mini ($69).) I’ve been regularly dermaplaning ever since, and found its made a huge difference thanks to easy removal of peach fuzz. Here's what I discovered my first time experiencing dermaplaning:

I have a little peach fuzz on my face, so I was excited to attend the Dermaflash event to have that removed. I’ve tried waxing before, and that made me break out in hives, not to mention that it was pretty painful. I’ve also tried threading (which I love for my eyebrows), but it also is slightly painful.

What I discovered is that the Dermaflash process is painless and the results are immediate. Besides removing unwanted facial hair, Dermaflash also exfoliates your skin. It takes away the oldest layer of dead skin cells and built-up debris. My face felt so smooth after I was “flashed.” I was also happy to see the unwanted peach fuzz go, instantly brightening up my face.

I asked Dermaflash Founder Dara Levy what to expect for hair regrowth and she cleared up some common misconceptions. She explained that hair will not grow back thicker and darker. I also learned that the Dermaflash is a great makeup application prep tool. Celebrity makeup artists like Patrick Ta and Daniel Martin use it on their clients before red carpet events to prep the skin for flawless makeup application.

“It’s my go-to starting point for delivering impeccable skincare and makeup application to my clients,” says Martin. You can learn more about the Dermaflash by visiting Dermaflash.com.
