DIY Spa Masks & Scrubs to Celebrate Earth Day
Today marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, which celebrates the connection that we have to nature, plants and the land. While we’re all staying close to home right now, one fun activity we suggest you try is making your own DIY spa masks and scrubs to celebrate Earth Day (not to mention that your skin will look and feel amazing as a result!)
Earth-Friendly Beauty: Eco-Conscious and Sustainable Brands
Several spa directors at top properties around the world have shared their favorite recipes for beauty masks and scrubs that you can whip up in the comfort of your own home—chances are you have most of these ingredients in your kitchen!
Sustainable Glow Face Mask

Spa Director Marlène Belvalette at the hotel’s Sense, A Rosewood Spa shares the best sustainable and plant-based mask to give you some glow for Earth Day, French girl style!
“In the morning, wash your face with cold water,” Belvalette says. “The secret to beautiful skin is to wash your face twice. Then apply a floral water mist, followed by a moisturizing day cream with SPF to protect against external impurities and fight against aging of the skin. In the evening, apply makeup remover to your face, then use a cleansing foam in a circular motion and rinse with clear water. Finish with an eye contour cream, moisturizing lip balm and a night cream—as your skin is being repaired during sleep, it’s important to use a cream that gives nutrients to your cells to help skin regeneration.”
Some other great at-home remedies Belvalette recommends doing once a week include using a purifying mask, sleeping with a night mask cream to restore the radiance of your skin, and taking a bath with your favorite bath oil to moisturize skin.
Ingredients:
2 tsp Honey
2 tsp Coconut Oil
2 drops Lemon Essential Oil
2 drops Carrot Essential Oil
Directions:
Mix for three minutes and apply on the face (avoid the eye contour).
Apply cucumber slices on your eyes, relax and keep the mask on your face for 15 minutes.
Rinse twice.
Healing Yogurt & Oats Mask

Spa Director Eduardo Pinet at The Spa at Las Ventanas shares the recipe for this naturally healing and hydrating face mask. It includes honey, which has antibacterial properties, hydrates and helps regulate oily skin, while aloe vera helps cells heal and regenerate, soothes sunburns, relieves irritations, and provides a light exfoliation.
Ingredients:
Natural Yogurt
Honey or Aloe Vera
Oats
Sugar
Bowl of Chamomile Tea
Bowl of Warm Water
Hand towel
2 Cotton Napkins
Directions:
Apply a spoon of yogurt to your hands and distribute in face and neckline with circular movements. Its lactic acid works as a natural scrub and brings hydration and luminosity to the skin.
In a bowl with warm water soak a hand towel and with it gently remove the yogurt starting from neckline and following to face.
Tone with chamomile tea by soaking two cotton napkins and applying with soft touches to neck and face. This ingredient will bring softness and hydration to the skin while soothing irritations.
Blend oats with yogurt or use sugar instead of oats for a deeper exfoliation. This mixture will also help remove dead cell. Apply to face and neckline with circular movements during three minutes. Use the soaked towel again to remove the mixture from the skin.
Once again, tone by applying chamomile tea with two cotton napkins with soft touches to neck and face.
Gently apply the honey or aloe vera mask with your hands or with a facial brush and let sit for 10-15 minutes.
Remove the mask with the soaked towel starting from the neckline up and tone again by applying chamomile tea with the cotton napkins.
Finally, apply a small amount of coconut oil which contains Vitamin E, you can also use a facial moisturizer instead.
