Everything You Need to Know to Pick Out the Best Lace Front Wig for Your Needs
With so many wig choices, how do you find the one that’s right for you? One of the most natural looking wig styles is the lace front wig, a popular choice from the Hairvivi brand. We caught up with Hairvivi to answer all your top lace front wig questions.
What is a lace front wig?
A lace front wig is a wig that is attached to lace to emulate a natural hairline. Often these wigs are handmade with human hair (or high quality synthetic hair) delicately sewn to the lace. A 13x6 frontal lace wig is 13 inches across from ear to ear and 6 inches to the back. This means the wig stretches out from one end of your ear with a parting that goes from the hairline back 6 inches.
What factors should someone consider when picking out a lace front wig?
When wearing a wig, one of the biggest concerns is that it looks natural and undetectable. A good wig should look just look like your real hair.
We recommend looking for a lace front wig with a pre-plucked hairline which gives the wig a natural hairline look and makes it look like your own hairline. When the wig is plucked, the density on the top is much lower, which is exactly the case of real hair. Additionally, prebleached knots make the knots undetectable.
You should also look for a lace color that blends in with your skin tone.
Hairvivi uses HD Swisse lace, which has great blendability. It is very thin, when you put it on your skin and you will find it melts to your skin instantly. After countless color tests, we decided to provide two lace colors (cappuccino and mocha) that fit most people’s skin tone.
To make the wigs look as natural as possible, Hairvivi’s professional workers also preplucked the hairline and prebleached the knots for the wigs. We bleach the knots so they are of the same color as our skin, less noticeable therefore more natural.
Hairvivi wigs have a large parting area 13x6 lace front. The purpose is to give you enough space to part your hair as you like. Just like your own hair, you can do middle parting, left/right parting, deep parting… whatever you like.
What should someone know about how to put on a Hairvivi wig?
Hairvivi wigs are easy to wear. With Hairvivi, all you need to do is three steps: 1. Put on the wig 2. Cut excess lace 3. Adjust the elastic band to fix the wig on your head. Since our wigs can be worn glueless, even beginners can wear them easily.
If you want to find a daily wear wig, we highly recommend natural color wigs. We have a variety of natural color wigs, straight, wavy, bobs, all kinds of styles. They are perfect for everyday wear. If you want to try something different, don’t miss our “New Arrivals”.
Do you recommend synthetic or wigs made from real hair? What are some of the advantages/disadvantages of each?
We do recommend human hair wigs, which is what Hairvivi wigs are made from. All of our wigs are made of 100% human hair. Although synthetic ones may be cheaper, comparing their longevity (2 years for human hair vs. 6 months or less for synthetic hair), we think human hair is definitely worth the money. Human hair wig advantages include:
Human hair wigs look natural.
They are durable.
They are adaptable and can be straightened, curled, permed, or colored just like your real hair.
One disadvantage of human hair wigs is that they are more expensive.
The advantage of synthetic wigs is that they are more affordable. However, we find that synthetic wigs don’t last as long and cannot be colored. Synthetic wigs also have an unnatural shine which makes them look less realistic.
Which type of wigs are the most realistic? Do you have any tips for making wigs look more natural?
We highly recommend lace front wigs. The hair is sewn by hand to a lace front cap which creates a very natural-looking hairline. If you choose the right lace color, you will find the lace melt to your skin straight away. Hairvivi provides a range of lace front wigs with different hairstyles and two lace color options, giving you a natural look.
My tips for achieving a natural wig look include:
Wear a lace front wig
Pluck the hairline and bleach knots (Hairvivi does that for you.)
Choose a wig with a large parting/lace area, so that you can part your hair as you like, just like what you do with your real hair. Hairvivi wigs have a 13x6 lace area, which is one of the largest lace areas on the market.
Don’t overstyle your baby hair. If it’s one thing that can make someone quickly realize that you’re wearing a wig is to over-style baby hair along your hairline. So, go easy on the styling of the baby hairs.
What are the biggest mistakes people make when it comes to wearing wigs?
Not getting accurate head measurements is a common mistake. Wigs come in different sizes, just like clothes. Customers sometimes choose a cap construction that is too large, which can lead to unstable wearing, while too small a size will squeeze the head and cause headaches. Hairvivi provides three wig cap sizes: large, medium and small so that you can select the one that’s the best fit for your needs.
Other common giveaways that someone is wearing a wig include:
Lace that is too thick or too “white”: Some wigs use bad quality lace, which makes the wigs look unnatural. When you wear those wigs, people can tell it’s a lace wig right away. Sometimes the lace color is too light compared to your skin color, so the lace is visible on your head, which makes it look unnatural.
Hairvivi wigs are designed to help you avoid this mistake because we use high quality HD Swisse lace with two different lace colors. Most people are able to find a color that melts into their skin tones.
No plucking or bleaching: Plucking wig hairline and bleaching the knots help the wig look like natural hair. Some wig companies don’t do that for you or charge extra fees. If you do that yourself, there’s a large chance that you might damage the wig.
Hairvivi wigs are pre-plucked and pre-bleached. They are designed to be wear-and-go.
Small part area: Wigs feature a variety of different kinds of wig parts. Examples include the V-part wig, T-part wig, 4x4 or 5x5 lace closure and 13x4.5, 13x6 lace frontal wig. V part and T part wigs can only do middle parting. A 5x5 closure wig gives a certain parting area but still very small. When it comes to 13x4.5 or 13x6, you’ll find it gives you more freedom to part your hair in different locations.
Hairvivi provides a variety of 13x6 lace wigs, giving you plenty of options for parting, including deep side parting.
Using the wrong Hair Adhesive: Adhesive or hair glue contains chemicals that can clog your pores and hair follicles.
Hairvivi glueless wig does not require glue. Because our wigs come with combs at the back and sides, they also have an anti-slip elastic band at the back, which helps secure the wig on your head. No glue needed for the wearing.
Should you put on a wig cap if you are planning on wearing a Hairvivi wig? What should you do with your hair under the cap/or wig?
If you are planning to wear a Hairvivi wig, my answer would be No. Hairvivi wigs all come with a true-scalp design, just stick the scalp tape on the inside of the wig, the wig is ready to wear, it’s just that easy and no bald cap needed.
Other than true scalp tape, we also provide fake scalp options, which is like a bald cap being sewed on the wig already. True scalp tape is the default option. (If you want the fake scalp method, after placing an order just email our customer service and we will change it to your preference.)
Before installing your wig, you can braid your hair. The flatter your hair, the easier it will be for the wig to fit on your head. In addition to braids, you can use cornrows, low buns, and some people have luck with a ponytail.
Will wigs damage your real hair and is there anything you can do to help protect your hair when wearing a wig?
As long as you choose the correct wig size, and don’t use glue very often, Hairvivi wigs are unlikely to damage your own hair. Hairvivi's glueless wig could be a great solution to the glue problem and we offer three cap size options to help you find your size.
Here are my suggestions for protecting our own hair when wearing a wig:
Choose the correct wig size. An unfitted cap size is terrible for our own hair and it is uncomfortable as well.Carefully measuring your head before buying a wig helps you make the right choice.
Don’t rely on hair glue too much. Hair glue contains chemicals and could cause skin irritation and therefore damage the real hairline. A Hairvivi glueless wig will help you avoid this kind of damage.
What makes Hairvivi wigs unique? Are there any innovations you want people to know about?
Hairvivi provides both high quality wigs and high quality service. Our mission is to do everything possible to give our customers the best and focus on giving products that are practical beginner friendly and natural. At Hairvivi, innovation and progression have always been at the core of everything we do and it’s our driving force. Our aim is to help customers achieve the most natural-looking wigs using the newest techniques.
Our recent upgrades include:
True-Scalp Tape. The true-scalp tape is ultra-thin and breathable. It adopts the technology of a bionic scalp to make it easier to conceal the bleached knots and grids. You can choose from three different colors - Cappuccino, Mocha, and Honey to match your skin tone and to further achieve a natural look.
Multi-color HD Lace. Our new HD Lace wig has flawless blendability and a natural hairline. It comes with two colors - Cappuccino & Mocha to choose from and perfectly melts to skin tone and is super invisible.
Larger Lace Area. The cap construction has also been upgraded with a larger lace area, which means it comes with a larger clean bleached area. It is much more breathable and allows for deeper side parting.
Anti-Slip Silicon Strip. The anti-slip silicone strips further allow a stable and secure fit without applying glue.
