Hotel and Spa Profile: Umi-No Hotel Isaba in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan

Terrrace Lounge at Umi-No Hotel Isaba.

Umi-No Hotel Isaba is tucked away in a small fishing village in Numazu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, with a beautiful view of Mount Fuji and the bay. Guests enjoy stunning sunset views, delicious fresh seafood, and relaxing accommodations. The destination is also famous for its therapeutic public and private hot spring baths, which not only feature spectacular views, but also provide a perfect way to unwind after a day of local exploration. We caught up with Ms. Mie Kawai, Guest Services Manager, to learn more about the Umi-No Hotel Isaba and spa.

Why You’ll Love It: Guests enjoy views of Mount Fuji, sunsets, and Suruga Bay, an experience unique from other destinations. Our guests also look forward to meals with fresh fish caught from Suruga Bay.

Accommodations: There are 27 rooms and our hotel was renovated last year. Some rooms have a private open-air bath with ocean-front views. The baths are made of Hinoki timber, which is very aromatic. You can immerse yourself in the natural hot springs while viewing Suruga Bay.

Insider’s Tip: The rooms with the private open-air baths are recommended for guests from overseas.

Cuisine: The restaurant serves mainly freshly caught seafood from Suruga Bay such as sashimi. Our recommendation is steamed Japanese spider crab. I personally recommend fried “Torobocchi.” (The area where the hotel is located is famous for this Japanese spider crab caught from Suruga Bay. Torobocchi is a deep sea fish. Locals call it Chlorophthalmus albatrossis “Torobocchi”.

What to know about the baths and hot springs: There are the private open-air baths, four private baths, and two large public baths. (Large public baths are separated by gender.) From one of the large public baths and some private baths, you can enjoy views of Mount Fuji.

The baths’ spring water contains sodium and calcium and is said to be good for your body. For example, it can help relieve pain such as muscular pain and joint pain. The temperature of the hot springs is approximately 40-41 degrees Centigrade or 104-105 degrees Fahrenheit.

Bath Notes and Etiquette:

  • Before entering the bath, wash your body with water in the bathing area. Do not wash your body in the bath.

  • Guests with tattoos can enjoy the private open-air baths and the private baths. (In Japan most public baths do not allow tattoos.)

Sightseeing Recommendations: There are so many places for sightseeing. I would like to recommend the Numazu Port area or Izunokuni Panorama Park. In the Numazu Port area, there is a fish market and you can visit to see auctions of fresh fish caught near Suruga Bay. There is also Numazu Deep Sea Aquarium and a collection of several restaurants. At Izunokuni Panorama Park, you can enjoy spectacular panoramic views of Mount Fuji, Suruga Bay, and Hakone.

Umi-No Hotel Isaba Spa: Guests can receive spa treatments like facials, skin rejuvenation treatments, and foot and/or body massages.
Bonus: Spa guests enjoy spectacular views of Mt. Fuji and the Suruga Bay that cannot be found anywhere else, and our unparalleled staff hospitality.

Spa Tip: We really recommend booking the private open-air bath rooms! Relaxing in the evening in the serene quiet of your private balcony while enjoying soothing views is a great experience.

Signature Treatment: We recommend our full-body relaxation treatment by hand (includes back, head, neck, and shoulder massage).
