For many couples, a honeymoon is a chance to connect on a truly intimate and personal level. However, if you’re trying to plan a honeymoon during the era of mask-wearing and social distancing, there are some additional challenges.

On one hand, you could postpone the honeymoon and wait until things get back to normal (if they ever do). On the other hand, there are some things you can do during a pandemic that might surprise you and end up being a far better bonding experience than you ever imagined!

Honeymoon Planning Tips During A Pandemic

If you have your heart set on going on a honeymoon during a pandemic, there are some things you should know. For starters, make sure to research the rules and regulations of everywhere you plan to go, including your destinations and anywhere in between that you’ll need to travel through.

Do Your Research

What are the restrictions at your destination? Will you have to quarantine when you get there? For travel within the United States, check the state health department pages for updates. It’s even more important for international travel to do your research so that you don’t run into unexpected trouble along the way.

Hire a Travel Advisor

You may want to hire a travel advisor. Depending on the type of travel you’re planning, a reputable advisor should have some insider knowledge when it comes to hotels and quarantine rules. They can also be your advocate should you have to push back plans and need to protect your investment.

Get Travel Insurance

Given the uncertain nature of traveling during a pandemic, it’s often a good idea to get a travel insurance policy in case various issues arise or plans are canceled. However, when looking at policies, make sure they cover pandemic-related emergencies, including trip delays and interruptions, lost baggage, and medical emergencies due to the pandemic.

Honeymoon Ideas During a Pandemic

With the restrictions put in place during the pandemic, it’s crucial to be creative when it comes to planning your honeymoon. With that in mind, we’ve put together a few pandemic-friendly ideas that should still be a lot of fun while keeping your safety a priority.

1. Consider Caribbean Travel Like Barbados

Many islands in the Caribbean have taken steps to stay safe during the pandemic. As such, if you’d like to take a honeymoon outside of the United States, look into vacations in Barbados. While there are still safety precautions to consider, there are some beautiful destinations and top-notch hotels that would not be bad to quarantine in.

You may need to take a COVID-19 test before and after arriving in the country. However, Barbados and other surrounding islands have taken increased steps to ensure safety during the pandemic.

2. Go Glamping

Glamping is a good way to get away from it all and experience the great outdoors without giving up the comforts of contemporary amenities. Plus, social distancing is a big part of the overall appeal. That is, from everyone but each other, of course.

Glamping facilities offer modern plumbing and top-notch amenities in naturally isolated outdoor locations. This could be an excellent pandemic honeymoon.

3. Have a Staycation

The early months of your marriage are often called the honeymoon phase. Why not spend them working on your home together? A few home improvement projects may be just what you need to begin building your lives together.

This is also a great way to begin making your home perfect for both of you. Go online and peruse Pinterest for some great ideas on how to spruce up your home. Working together on some home projects may just be the perfect way to bond and build a future together. What’s more, spending your honeymoon money on your home will have more of a lasting impact.

4. Plan a Post-Pandemic Honeymoon

No pandemic lasts forever and your marriage vows are for life, so why worry about the honeymoon now? What’s the rush? Instead, begin saving for a great trip after the pandemic is over. The simple act of planning this event will build hype and make it something you both look forward to.

You can begin collecting travel brochures and asking other couples what they did. There are tons of ideas online and you can even meet virtually with a travel agent if you like. Focus on organizing your dream honeymoon and putting away a little more cash for every month spent in quarantine.

Don’t let the disappointment at having to cancel your wedding reception put a damper on your new life together. After all, you’re married now! Remember that you have the rest of your life to celebrate. Be optimistic, make plans, and take the time to grow closer as a couple.

Please be responsible as you travel. Remember to follow local health guidelines and check for the latest updates directly from your destinations.
