Meet Beauty Influencer Cam Day
It's no secret that I'm a big fan of all things beauty.
I love makeup, makeup tips, tricks and I'm always on the lookout for my new favorite influencer. In this case, she just happens to be family.
Cameron Day, my husband's cousin, and I instantly bonded over our love of makeup. Not only is she a talented makeup artist and insanely beautiful, she was the winner of the 2019 Instagram contest with Rose Inc, in collaboration with Beautycon which resulted in a free trip to beauty school.
Cam moved from Detroit to LA in 2018 to begin her beauty career, and hasn't looked back. I had the chance to chat with her and ask her a few questions about her journey into beauty, her favorite products, and wellness tips. Here's what she had to say. Make sure to follow her at @heyitscamday and subscribe to her YouTube channel.
How did you get started in makeup?
I always played with my mom's makeup and wasn't allowed to wear any until high school. I would still have my "play time" with it at home though just for funsies. I started experimenting more in my early twenties and in early 2019 I won an Instagram competition and beauty school was the prize! I earned my Makeup Artist certificate and began part-time freelancing. Now since the pandemic, I share most of my looks and tips on myself on my YouTube channel and Instagram page!
What are your go-to makeup products?
I'm always experimenting but two consistent favorites are NYX Slim Lip Pencil in Natural and Bioderma Sensibio Micellar Water. I've restocked both like 10 times.
Who is your inspiration?
Tracee Ellis Ross - she lives boldly and values self expression so highly. I love the way that comes through in her work, activism, fashion, hair and makeup.
Favorite beauty tip:
A good sunscreen is your BFF.
Best advice:
Stop stressing! Not only does stress actually fatigue our bodies' systems and in turn our skin, it's just that most things aren't that deep. It's okay if your eyeliner wings aren't even today or if you accidentally fell asleep with your makeup on, you will live and are still cute. Try again tomorrow.
What small/women owned businesses are you loving?
The Lip Bar is one of my favorite black-owned brands--their lipstick in Baby Bellini, a peachy nude, is one of my go-to shades. As a Detroit girl, it's so exciting to see them keep growing. I also recently discovered Clevr Blends, a women-led wellness brand that sources their ingredients ethically and sustainably--I drink their Matcha SuperLatte (matcha + adaptogens) a couple times a week and it's the perfect midday treat.
