Spa Review: We Tried the Sego Lily Sampler at Sego Lily Spa Midvale
Dotting the Wasatch Front of northern Utah, Sego Lily Spa has been a local favorite since 2000, offering three locations in Layton, Bountiful, and Midvale. Each place has a distinct ambiance and feel, with slight variations in amenities and service offerings.
Recently, I had the privilege of spending an afternoon at the Midvale location. I opened the grand doors of the adobe-style spa to the sound of water flowing from the lobby’s water wall—a welcome invitation for relaxation ahead.
Here’s what you’ll love about Sego Lily Spa Midvale:
Three easily accessible locations in northern Utah.
14 private treatment rooms, 3 couples massage rooms, hydrotherapy, Vichy Swiss shower, and oversized baths for soaking rituals.
A meditation lounge with a floor-to-ceiling water wall, a double-sided fireplace, and snacks.
Women’s and men’s locker rooms with steam rooms and saunas.
A wide range of offerings including body treatments, massage, bath rituals, facials, nail care, and waxing.
Savings on treatment packages and seasonal offerings.
After checking in at the front desk and filling out a consent form, I was ushered to the locker room and given a Sego Lily robe and slippers to change into. The locker room includes a steam room and sauna to enjoy before or after treatments. Once changed, I found my way into the spa’s massive meditation room, which has a cozy double-sided fireplace, waterfall wall, and comfortable couches. Guests can sip on tea, hot chocolate, or apple cider and snack on granola bars in the dimly lit relaxation space, which feels very rustic and homey.
I was greeted by my massage therapist, Colby, who led me into a comfortable treatment room with its own soaking tub. After providing an explanation of what my treatment, The Sego Lily Sampler, would entail, he then stepped out while I undressed and climbed under the sheets. The Sego Lily Sampler (90 min/$130) is the perfect service for the indecisive spa-goer, giving guests a taste of three different modalities: reflexology, hot stone massage, and cranial sacral therapy.
Colby was extremely skilled as he performed each step, flowing effortlessly with every transition and balancing the stones, hot towels, and draping without a second thought. This was my first experience with cranial sacral therapy and I found it enjoyable. While the other aspects of my massage used medium to firm pressure, per my preference, cranial sacral was light in pressure and targeted. Designed to relieve compression in the bones of the head, spinal column, and sacrum, cranial sacral aims to remove “blockages” in order to alleviate several conditions including headaches, insomnia, and mood disorders.
After the treatment, Colby was satisfied with the “releases” he noticed during the cranial sacral treatment. I have to say, I felt great and noticed that my neck and shoulders felt incredibly relaxed immediately after the treatment (and in the days to come). I especially noticed the newfound ease as I drove and checked blind spots. Colby has a handful of regular clients who book the Sego Lily Sample every two weeks for the relaxation and tension reduction. I’ve been wondering how I can get a standing appointment ever since!
After the massage, Colby gave me a tour of the spa, where I got to check out many of Midvale’s 14 private treatment rooms. I snapped a picture of the Vichy shower in all its steamy goodness as a therapist was preparing for a body polish treatment. The couples rooms were beautiful, large, and inviting with big soaking tubs.
Next, I looked inside the private nail care room, where a small group was enjoying pedicures together. The seasonal options looked tempting with fresh oranges and bath bombs. Walking through the spa, it’s hard not to notice the open feel and rustic Southwest details.
I made my way back to the lobby to shop before checking out and found many favorites on the shelf, including Rhonda Allison, Eminence Organic Skin Care, Farmhouse Fresh, Jack Black, Jane Iredale, and more. The staff was helpful and even offered samples for me to take home and try. As I checked out at the front desk, I was offered a chocolate mint—the perfect ending to a sweet day at the spa!
