California Spa Guide: The Best Spas in Palm Springs

Each of the hotel’s 46 guest rooms has its own unique personality with different color combinations, custom textiles, and bespoke furniture, providing each guest with a special and individual experience. All rooms include Diptyque bath amenities, Revival New York bed linens, Carrara Marble counter tops, and full-size mini bars with vintage crystal stemware, among others. Many rooms come with a private patio or balcony and a custom Moroccan fountain.

Guests at the hotel enjoy special amenities such as the chic swimming pool area with individual loungers, umbrellas, and black-and-white striped cabanas. The Pink Cabana restaurant offers a fresh, modern take on Palm Springs’ tennis and racquet clubs of the 1950s and 1960s with an ingredient-driven menu that highlights Mediterranean cuisine with a Moroccan influence.

The 13 Best Resorts in Palm Springs

Those in need of a relaxing spa day will enjoy the spa at Sands Hotel & Spa, a Moroccan-inspired wellness escape located in the hotel’s Olive Grove. The signature spa has three intimate treatment rooms (including a couples’ treatment room) and a reception area with lush seating for pre-and post-treatment lounging.

The spa’s menu features inspiring services that combine traditional Western techniques with naturally-sourced ingredients from Morocco to promote vibrancy, health, and inner beauty. We interviewed Luciana LoPresto, Spa Director at Sands Hotel & Spa, to learn more about treatments to try, insider tips, and more.

The hotel’s lobby features various black-and-white prints and patterns on the walls, ceiling, and floor.

Why You’ll Love It: It’s the wow factor! When entering the spa, guests are dazzled with our Martyn Lawrence Bullard-designed spa, which was inspired by Doris Duke’s Shangri La home.

The hotels’s Pink Cabana restaurant is a fresh, modern take on Palm Springs’ tennis and racquet clubs from the 1950s and 1960s.

Key Features: Our spa includes three treatment rooms including one couples’ massage room. The spa reception area welcomes our guests and sparkles with arched and mirrored mosaic walls, Moroccan poufs, and a built-in pink sofa.

Many of the hotel’s 46 guest rooms come with private patios or balconies that include custom Moroccan fountains.

Insider’s Tip: Allow your spa experience to continue poolside at Sands, lounging in your hotel robe or bathing suit. Servers from the nearby Pink Cabana are available to take your order. I suggest a fresh juice—either the Marrakesh Refresher or Wellness Tonic.

Each room at Sands Hotel & Spa has a unique personality with different color combinations, bespoke furniture, and custom textiles.

Bonus: We purposely don’t offer alcohol before or after treatments as it is contraindicated—instead just ice water. Our spa therapists are hand selected with our multi-step interview process. While we require a minimum of three years work experience, most of our spa therapists have 10 or more years of work experience. You won’t find this at most spas.

The hotel’s swimming pool has comfortable loungers with umbrellas as well as private cabanas.

Splurge Treatment: Our signature treatment is the Royal Rhassoul, a Hammam-inspired treatment. I chose this Moroccan body treatment from my visits to many European Turkish Hammams. Our Rhassoul clay is sourced from the Atlas Mountains in Morocco. High in silica and magnesium, it leaves your skin silky smooth.

The chic outdoor pool area offers the perfect backdrop for relaxing under the sun.

Favorite Treatment: Together with Phytoceane I developed our Moroccan Radiance Facial. Results are immediate as alpha hydroxy acids (AHA) and botanicals even your skin tone.  A second mask deeply hydrates, leaving you with firmer, more radiant skin.

Unique Treatment: Our European Spine Treatment add on is not something you will often find on a spa menu.  A self-heating French mud pack is covered with layers of gauze and placed underneath your spine during a massage or facial.  It remineralizes, detoxifies, and oxygenates your spine—soothing your central nervous system.

The Martyn Lawrence Bullard-designed signature Moroccan spa is devoted to wellness.

Featured Products: With my decades-long relationship with Phytomer, I knew their exclusive lines Phtyoceane and Fleur's would be an ideal match for Sands. Based in Northern France, this 50-year-old company has a testing lab on site. This means each product is thoroughly and rigorously tested prior to coming onto the skincare market. I developed our facial and body treatments along with their education director.

We also enjoy a long-standing relationship with local aromatherapy company The Body Deli. We use their organic and handmade essential oils, creams, and lotions in our massage, facial, and body treatments.

The spa offers a variety of massages, facials, and body treatments that feature naturally-sourced ingredients from Morocco.
