Spa Profile: Great Plains Selinda Camp

Situated in Northern Botswana, Selinda Camp is located within the 320,000-acre private Selinda Reserve.

Great Plains is an iconic conservation organization that offers exquisite experiences in Botswana, Kenya and Zimbabwe. All camps are plastic-free and 100% solar-powered, striving to have minimal impact on the environment. The Selinda Camp in Botswana is set on the Selinda Spillway banks as it enters the Linyanti River and is surrounded by elephants, the Selinda pack of African wild dogs, and the famous Selinda lion pride.

Selinda Camp represents the meeting place of three cultures: European, Mokololo, and Bayei. Themed to resemble the thatched village of Sangwali, its architectural design elements center around water, air, earth, and fire. It includes three expansive guest suites covered under thatch with large en-suite bathrooms and a large open private veranda with a seating area private swimming pool.

Guests can choose from pampering spa treatments, yoga and meditation, scenic swims, and a variety of outdoor activities such as safaris and mountain biking. A selection of rejuvenating in-room spa treatments are available including hydrating facials, deep tissue massages, African head and foot massages, and more.

We interviewed Soveree Tjinjeka, Wellness Concierge at Selinda Camp, who shared insider tips, recommended treatments to try, and more.

Why You’ll Love It: The peacefulness and calmness along with the positive energy we try and relay.

The camp has three expansive guest suites, each covered under thatch and large en-suite bathrooms and a large open private veranda with a seating area and private swimming pool.

Key Features: Over and above the treatments on offer which we use the Spacology range for, we have a water feature in the corner, a beautiful ‘rain’ shower, and our spa is quite spacious with a comfortable lounge area for use before or after your treatment.

Each guest suite is unique, designed with its own colour palette and theme, including textures of rope, suites under thatch, hammocks, lots of space, nautical elements, and salvaged wood.

Snacks Served: As the camp is so intimate, we really work on a guest-to-guest basis, but fresh homemade juices and ginger ice teas are always available.

Bonus: We offer complimentary 10-minute massages to our in-house guests as to entice you a bit. We are also currently working on boosting the overall wellness aspect in our camps and health shots will be one of the features to be rolled out soon.

Guests can choose from a range of pampering spa treatments, yoga and meditation, and scenic swims.

Insider’s Tip: A lot of people underestimate the value of self-care, taking that bubble bath, relaxing for a few minutes during a hectic work day, drinking lots of water, and getting enough sleep!

In-room massage options are available using the finest local organic ingredients.

Splurge Treatment: It would have to be the Great Plains Renewal Treatment. This treatment is about taking the time to reflect, release, and cleanse to feel renewed. Expect body brushing away old ways and massaging in the new hopes.

The spa includes a beautiful rain shower.

Unique Treatment: Awaken your Senses. This treatment incorporates all the senses, not just the touch aspect.

Insider’s Favorite: I love doing deep tissue treatments to really get to the source of deep-rooted stress in our guests.

The Out of Africa Couples Treatment includes a full-body exfoliation, moisturizing body balm massage, and a facial massage rich in natural extracts.

Featured Products: Spacology is used throughout our camps and is a natural vegan product line.
