Spa Diary: Le Petit Spa Matira

The spa’s holistic approach takes inspiration from nature—in Polynesia healing is performed with the assistance of various natural element such as fresh air, sunshine, crystalline water, sand, and the lush, green forests. In turn, these support all the facets of the human body and its potential in terms of harmony of body, mind, and spirit.

Le Petit Spa Matira is owned by ONE SOUL Spa, a wellness company that has multiple locations throughout the Tahitian islands. ONE SOUL Spa’s mission is to provide the best spa experience in French Polynesian paradise, using natural methods with highly-qualified therapists. We chatted with Manuela Paoletti, ONE SOUL Spa Co-Founder, who shared treatments to try, insider tips, Polynesian healing traditions, and more:

Why You’ll Love It: Guests are mostly touched by the marriage of Coqui Coqui’s Polynesian fragrance research with the holistic approach of ONE SOUL Spa. The wide range of olfactory experiences match with the art of Polynesian restorative treatments to inebriate guests and bring them to a journey of senses. Polynesia is completely present in this experience—in these remote islands, Mother Earth is blessing us with a rich range of flowers, woods, and fruit fragrances, providing inspiration for body, mind, and spirit rebalancing.

The spa’s treatment room and outdoor bath area.

Key Features: Le Petit Spa Matira offers a refined, intimate space where guests can relax while being in contact with natural elements. The bathtub in our external spa area is one of eight bathtubs from the ancient Bora Bora Hotel—probably the most beautiful historical and mythical hotel in Bora Bora.

The spa is located across from the famous Matira Beach—the unique, white sandy beach on Bora Bora’s main island. Paddle boards are available for our guests to enjoy in the turquoise lagoon. The area around Matira is great for relaxing, snorkeling, and enjoying the restaurants nearby.

All of our treatments are based on research of local traditions and have a holistic approach—even a classic relaxing massage has the potential to create the best client experience.

Guests of the spa can enjoy relaxing outdoor baths in the private garden.

Snacks Served: At the moment we offer local Polynesian vanilla tea (served iced or hot), accompanied by nuts and dried fruits. Fresh water is always available for our guests. As holistic professionals, we know the importance and role of water in the body before and after the treatment to hydrate and help eliminate toxins.  We are currently working with local farmers to be able to offer locally-grown roasted Polynesian almonds and pistachios in the near future. Roasted coconut will be also our next step.

Insider Tip: “Mana” is the Polynesian word used to express the vital energy that pulses through the universe and sustains all life. Mana is available to us through pure air, sun, marine water, the sound of the sea, white sand, and more. When choosing your treatment, keep in mind that all our treatments are personalized in terms of pressure and preferences. Our therapists remember guests’ preferences so they can provide the best treatment for them every time.

The treatment room features soothing Polynesian decor.

Bonus: Before your treatment, you will be invited on an olfactory journey to discover Coqui Coqui massage oils. This experience is a voyage into Polynesian culture and nature. It’s the moment where fragrances enter the body, cleansing and purifying at a deeper level and helping to bring the guest to a higher level of consciousness.

Unique Treatment: I will definitely say the Polynesian shell massage. We use local shells that come from our motu’s reefs. They are smooth, contoured, and provide a luxurious sensation. The shells are polished by Polynesian artisans, who transform them into instruments of healing. Shells have an uplifting effect on the body and its magnetic fields. This treatment can bring a very deep level of restoration and touches the souls of guests through feelings of connection with nature. The massage includes hands-on techniques to get the practitioner’s Mana going for the best result.

The spa offers a range of healing therapies and soothing treatments.

Splurge Treatment: Our Rituals are designed for amazing wellness experiences. All details are designed to provide the best experience available for the guest in that present moment. Below are the two we currently offer:

Earth Ritual - Our signature treatment dedicated to enhance a grounding experience and awaken the integrity within your own self. You will discover our bath fragrances and the Polynesian art of massage. It includes sweet and salty coconut and flowers sprinkled in the bath oil, a 50-minute Polynesian massage, and a 30-minute foot reflexology.

Water Ritual - Our suggested signature Ritual for the most durable relaxation. Enjoy a journey of senses through perfumes and product textures. Includes a coconut body exfoliation, sweet and salty coconut and flower bath with your selected bath oil, our relaxing 80-minute signature massage, and face reflexology.

Insider’s Favorite: My favorite treatment is the Earth Ritual. It’s a modern issue to feel disconnected from our true self, and in this treatment we have the combination of Polynesian massage with foot reflexology and a bath. The experience begins with a soak in our private outdoor bathtub—guests can also request the medicinal plants bath, which is a great choice to plunge into ancient Polynesian traditions and get a touch of local wisdom. The ancestral medicine here, called Rau Tahiti, is a tradition in each family (it’s especially used in children and the elderly through herbal baths, ingestion of medical plants, or infusions).

Then you will experience a Polynesian massage with grounding properties, thanks to the use of practitioner forearms and hands-on techniques. The movements are done to balance the body, bringing you into a space of calm and rest. Foot reflexology will end the treatment—it’s an ancient tradition in Polynesia to massage the soles of feet (mothers often do it to their children), and it’s said to awaken connection into the body and bring all tensions down to Mother Earth.

The spa offers a relaxing Polynesian shell massage.

Featured Products: Coqui Coqui massage and bath oils are available to be selected before your treatment. For facials, we use 100% natural products featuring avocado oil, virgin coconut oil, mango, and tropical fruits extracts.
