Spa Profile: The Salt Studio
Located in charming Pasadena, California, The Salt Studio is a unique urban sanctuary that offers a variety of healing services and treatments, from massages and facials to energy work. The spa is also home to a tranquil salt relaxation room, which helps provide relief from respiratory disorders, skin conditions and allergies.
We chatted with owner Diana Leone, who gave us a special tour of The Salt Studio while discussing the health benefits of Halotherapy (salt therapy), recommended treatments, and more:
Why You’ll Love It: The special touches that we offer in our spa treatments are unique. We offer aromatherapy and heat therapy with our services, and those are normally add-on things, so guests appreciate the extra care in that way. Guests also love the holistic approach, where their therapist is going to really address their needs on different levels.
Key Features: Salt room, treatment rooms, retail area, lobby lounge.
Benefits of Salt Therapy: This gentle treatment uses the natural healing properties of salt to benefit many respiratory and skin conditions, such as allergies and psoriasis. Our salt room is a tranquil, negative ion-rich environment—the perfect oasis in which to recharge. During a Salt Therapy session, you simply relax while breathing in a fine salt mist. The cleansing and anti-inflammatory properties of pure sea salt treat and detoxify your lungs and skin.
Insider’s Tip: I usually recommend normal breathing in the Salt Room, mixed in with occasional deep, slow breaths from the nose and the mouth. Knowing some additional breath work techniques or meditation definitely helps, and we have wellness books, magazines, and a coloring book to help guests relax. In the past I’ve recommended meditation apps, but we now don't allow electronics because we really want to preserve the atmosphere.
Spa Snacks: We offer organic tea, cucumber water and trail mix. We also sell YES Bars and we have Juice It Up! next door.
Insider’s Favorite: The AG Facial ($135/75-min) is a favorite because it addresses fine lines and hydrates, lifts, tones and stimulates collagen production using ultra-sonic vibration, negative ions and light therapy. Most people know that massage is good for overall relaxation, but not many know the same can be said for a facial, which can affect aging as well. I get this treatment several times a year.
Unique Treatment: I think adding Chakra Harmonizing ($25) to your facial or massage is pretty unique, because that opens up the opportunity for learning more about yourself and that body-mind connection. Another unique treatment that guests love is the Detox Mud Wrap ($$55/30-min).
Splurge Treatment: A lot of people choose the Spa Works Treatment ($195) for gifts or birthdays. It lasts two hours and includes a salt body scrub, a Dead Sea Mud Wrap and a massage. You can even add on hot stones. The treatment is extremely invigorating, detoxifying and relaxing. It’s is also a high-heat treatment, so you’re getting core muscle relaxation. And in your massage, you’re able to get deeper work done more effectively because you've already reached that core relaxation.
Featured Products: We sell salt lamps and salt candle holders, Fair Trade salt products, books related to wellness, candles, chakra candles, the spa’s own line of aromatherapy sprays and roll-ons, high mineral bath salts, smudging tools, crystals collected from the desert. Brands include doTerra, Osea, Red Flower, Scarlet Sage, Urban Moonshine.
