Spa Profile: The Spa at Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale at Troon North

Desert romance meets outdoor adventure at Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale at Troon.

With charming adobe architecture accompanied by a stunning backdrop that includes valleys, saguaro cacti, and the granite summit Pinnacle Peak, Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale at Troon North in Arizona offers its guests the best of the desert lifestyle along with outdoor adventure activities such as hiking and mountain biking. Resort guests also enjoy special privileges at two world-class golf courses that are a quick shuttle ride away.

The resort is also home to a renowned Spa that offers an extensive menu of signature treatments and therapies, in addition to an Aroma Design Bar, specially created yoga classes, and Zen Hikes. Other amenities available include a 24-hour fitness centre, bi-level free-form pool, as well as access to a variety of guided hikes, desert tours and stargazing.

Assistant Spa Director Sarah Lohmeier provides insider tips, spa treatments that are worth the splurge, and much more:

Why You’ll Love It: The Spa offers an array of locally-inspired treatments, massages and body therapies. It also has an Aroma Design Bar, where guests can explore thousands of aromatherapy combinations to create a custom-blended, hand-curated product, which they can then use in a spa treatment.

The resort’s amenities include a bi-level pool.

Key Features: The Spa has a large fitness center that opens to an outdoor lawn, which is often used for al fresco yoga and other classes. It also features separate men’s and women’s relaxation areas, saunas, and an especially unique amenity: chromotherapy. Color research has long revealed the impact of color on mood, behavior and overall well-being.

Chromotherapy (aka color therapy) uses different colors of light that are thought to balance one’s energy, which may be lacking due to physical, emotional, spiritual, or mental stresses. The Spa’s Immersive Sensory Steam Rooms use chromotherapy and aromatherapy to bring relief and relaxation to guests. The colored light therapy is used in combination with scents such as lavender, mint, lemongrass and rosemary, which can help in relaxation and rejuvenation. Alternating by season, the steam rooms will use:

  • Yellow: to bring out creative energy

  • Blue: for a soothing and tranquil experience

  • Green: to stabilize emotions

  • Purple: to reduce anxiety

Bonus: Guests who book a 50-minute or longer treatment can enjoy access to the resort’s bi-level pool at no additional charge.

Insider’s Tip: Look for the Spa’s Zen Hike. Guests are encouraged to stop, breathe, and take in the beauty of nature as they enjoy a guided hike that starts at The Spa. Approximately 90 minutes from start to finish, the Zen Hike is led by resort instructors and incorporates yoga poses along the beautiful desert hiking trail as it meanders up Pinnacle Peak, which is adjacent to the Resort. It's the perfect way to start the day with mindful exercise that invigorates the body and calms the mind. It’s complimentary to resort guests and is most often held on weekend mornings.

Snacks Served: The Spa offers complimentary chia seed shortbread, Fuji apples and fruit-infused waters.

Unique Treatment: The Coco Mole Energizing Wrap. This 80-minute treatment begins with a stimulating, antioxidant-rich café mocha sugar scrub. Smooth cocoa mole mud is then applied to the skin and the body is wrapped in warm linens. The guest then may choose to enjoy a soothing facial massage or a scalp massage using warm, nourishing oils. The finishing step is the application of whipped shea butter infused with vanilla and cardamom that leaves skin radiant and silky smooth.

The Spa’s Zen Hike combines a mindful walk up Pinnacle Peak with stops for yoga poses.

Splurge Treatment: The Pinnacle Facial is a decadent treatment that indulges both the face and body. An intensely stimulating facial, it utilizes the anti-inflammatory properties of gold, bringing radiance to the complexion while the body is treated with an invigorating scrub and gold shimmer oil. It includes a full back facial and a back massage.

Sunday through Thursday: 110 minutes ($320)

Friday and Saturday: 110 minutes ($330)

Insider’s Favorite: I really love the Coco Mole Energizing Wrap, but also the Healing Hiker’s Massage. This full-body massage uses mountain arnica and sage to help ease inflammation and soreness that can come with exercise or from hiking in our desert mountains. Special emphasis is placed on the legs. In addition to stretching, the guest enjoys the use of warm towels. It’s a great treatment to help rejuvenate tired muscles.

The Pinnacle Facial is one of the Spa’s signature treatments.

Featured Products: Body Bliss, EmerginC, Knesko (for its signature facials), and Omorovicza.
