Spa Review: We Tried the Grand Signature Facial at The Spa at The Grand

Pulling up to The Grand America Hotel.

In the heart of Salt Lake City, The Spa at The Grand is a sanctuary unlike any other. It occupies a four-story segment of The Grand America Hotel and includes every amenity a girl (or guy!) could wish for. Recently, Spa & Beauty Today had the opportunity to spend a glorious afternoon in The Spa at The Grand and adjacent salon and fitness center. We experienced a luxurious facial, kicked back by the indoor pool, sipped tea in one of the three relaxation lounges, and decompressed in the steam room.

Walking into The Spa at The Grand.

Here’s what you’ll love about The Spa at The Grand:

  • Stunning views of the hotel’s immaculate court yard and Salt Lake’s snow-capped mountains.

  • Men and women’s lockers equipped with saunas, steam rooms and an experiential shower (with 17 shower heads!)

  • A full-service salon with manicure and pedicure stations, hair booths and a men’s barbering room.

  • A 24-hour fitness center with state-of-the-art equipment featuring individual televisions and extra headphones.

  • The indoor pool and hot tub are tranquil and spacious. Room service can be ordered and enjoyed poolside.

  • A wide selection of brands to choose from in the retail lobby, from cult-favorites to indie local brands, making it a perfect place to shop for a gift.

  • Fresh fruit, tea and house-made granola to nibble on in the relaxation longue.

  • The service and staff treat guests like royalty. Some employees have been there for over a decade!

  • Spa guests have all-day access to amenities on the day of their service. Hotel guests can pay $10 per day to enjoy them.

  • The hotel’s afternoon tea, live harp music, bakery, cafe and holiday window stroll add to the charm of a perfect spa weekend!

Voluspa candles are available to purchase in the reception lobby.

From the minute I stepped inside, I didn’t want to leave. Maybe it was the serene water feature in the lobby that put my mind to rest immediately? The Spa at The Grand has recently been renovated with no detail left unnoticed. The color scheme is warm with cozy furniture, tasteful artwork, and beautiful fixtures and finishes. Spa director Tony offered a ‘grand’ tour where I first shown the incredible indoor pool and hot tub area, the perfect backdrop for bridal parties or special occasions with family and friends.

Next, I was shown the luxe locker rooms, where I was given a comfortable spa robe and sandals to slip on, as well as free access to showers, steam and saunas. Cold water and towels are available post-steam, emphasizing the care to detail at every turn.

Cold cucumber towels are available in the locker room to use during/after steam sessions.

Stepping into the steam room, within the women’s locker room.

In preparation for the treatment service, I enjoyed tea in the Common Lounge for women and men (there are also private men and women relaxation areas) and nibbled on complimentary snacks. The house-made granola sourced with local honey might be the best I’ve ever tasted!

When the time came, a veteran esthetician, Shelley, ushered me to one of 18 of the spa’s treatment rooms. Each room has customizable sound and temperature control to ensure the perfect ambiance. The Grand Signature Facial ($235/80 minutes) was a treat indeed, including a double cleanse (the second using a Clarisonic brush) with steam, exfoliation, treatment masks and facial massage.

Warm booties were applied after a foot massage, and a neck and shoulder massage was sprinkled throughout the entire 80-minute service. Delicious smelling products from Eminence and SkinCeuticals were used according to my skin’s need throughout the process. After a slew of skin-repairing elixirs, Shelley used a handheld NuFace microcurrent device to tone and stimulate collagen. Let’s just say NuFace is now #1 on my holiday wish-list so I can maintain optimal results in-between facials.

The Spa at The Grand’s custom shower selection smells of sweet honey.

I then drifted back to the locker room and hopped into a warm, luxuriously delightful shower, (did I mention the 17 different shower heads?!) without washing my freshly-pampered face. I dosed myself from head to toe using The Spa at The Grand’s custom honey-infused shampoo, conditioner and body wash. Shelley brought me extra moisturizer and eye cream, in case I needed to apply post-shower. Her recommendation and holy grail product pick was SkinCeutical Triple Lipid Restore 2:4:2.

Beautiful views of the hotel’s courtyard and the Utah mountains.

Wishing I could stay longer, but needing to attend to other engagements, I was guided back to the front lobby by a friendly spa attendant. The only downside of the visit…I’m already itching to get back! Next on the docket to try is the popular two-hour massage and soon-to-be launched HydraFacial. Whether you’re a local or visiting Salt Lake City on a ski or business trip, carve out some time for a visit to The Spa at The Grand for a truly stellar experience.
