Sustainable Spotlight: WLDKAT, a Bold Beauty Brand with Fresh Formulations to Make You Glow

WLDKAT is a clean, sustainable, and cruelty-free beauty brand that believes in leaving people, places, and things better than they found them. The brand is known for innovative products that are free from unnecessary additives, while replacing them with unique globally inspired formulas. The products feature sensorial textures that deliver a sought-after “purr-worthy” glow. 

We are fans of the brand’s unique skincare offerings, which not only feature fabulous vegan ingredients, but also fun packaging with a bold attitude and made from recycled materials. We caught up with Founder Amy Zunzunegui to learn all about the brand and its sustainable practices.

Can you tell us a little about your background and what inspired you to launch WLDKAT?

I spent almost 20 years at Urban Decay developing thousands of products and their packaging.  So for me, product and packaging are everything. The product has to perform without question.  Our formulas are clean, vegan, cruelty-free and each one is made to hydrate and give you that OMG-you’re-glowing skin. 

Then the packaging has to tell the story of the product, the ingredients inside, as well as the personality of the brand. We set out to create products that had a loud personality and that didn’t fit the typical skincare mold. I wanted WLDKAT to be unexpected from the ingredient pairings, to the artwork to the tone of voice.   

What steps does WLDKAT take towards being sustainable? 

From small things like not wasting paper on printing documents, to creating our travel size products to be refillable, to running the majority of our packaging using of post-consumer recycled plastic, we think about each and every step of our process. Our boxes are 100% PCR and our plastic components are a minimum of 50% PCR, but most are actually closer to 100%.  We manufacture our products in the US to limit our carbon footprint. And we use stock componentry so as to limit the resources used on developing products. All of these steps add up in a big way.

 Is there anything you want customers to know about the ingredients in WLDKAT’s products?

All of WLDKAT’s product are clean. For us that means there are 2700 ingredients we DO NOT use in our products, including fragrance. And each of the ingredients used in the formulas are at the raw material supplier’s recommended levels, meaning they aren’t just in there for marketing claims. Because of this, our products are hydrating and give you glowing skin, without irritating.  There are a lot of products on the market that can be too harsh and actually cause more skin issues than they are solving.

Is there a signature or most popular product? Do you have a favorite?

We won’t launch a product unless we really test and try and believe that is our newest ride-or-die. Each product is more exciting than the previous. So I am currently obsessed with our Starflower + Snow Mushroom($29) sleep mask! It goes to work while you sleep and is the ultimate shortcut to glowing skin. Apply at night before bed and wake up with glowy, plumpy skin, I promise.
