We Chat Collagen Skincare with Rowan Hall-Farrise, QMS Medicosmetics Global Educator

QMS Medicosmetics Collagen 3 Step Routine

Founded by Dr. Erich Schulte in 1994, QMS Medicosmetics focuses on results-driven skincare and is known for their collagen collection of products. Dr. Schulte’s background as a trauma and cosmetic surgeon led him to study methods for effective wound healing, including how to re-introduce collagen into the epidermis to improve the skin’s appearance. This research helped establish the innovative science-based foundation for the brand.

Today, QMS Medicosmetics is a favorite skincare choice of A-list celebrities and top skincare professionals around the world. We chatted with Rowan Hall-Farrise, QMS Medicosmetics Global Educator, to learn more about the brand and why you should incorporate collagen into your skincare routine.

Why should we include collagen in our skincare routines and what are the benefits?

It’s really important as it is a main component for skin vitality, elasticity, and the overall health of the skin. Incorporating collagen into the skincare routine helps the skin to replenish and revitalize. It would give back firmness, plumpness, and a youthful glow.

Is there anything you want people to know about the type of collagen used in your products and where it comes from?

The type of collagen you’re using is really important. This affects whether the skin is going to recognize the collagen and allow for it to absorb into the skin.

At QMS we use collagen to create almost like a second skin, and this is able to lock hydration into the skin and allow the skin to replenish itself. Working with marine collagen, it has a different body temperature to our own. This means when the collagen is applied to our face or body, it will degenerate very quickly.

At QMS, we work with bovine collagen, which is the closest molecular structure to our own collagen. It’s 97% skin identical, which means that it allows the skin to recognize it and allows it to absorb onto the skin. It can last up to 72 hours, enabling the client to really see progression in the skin, as it will be able to hold hydration a lot longer.

Can you tell us about your 3-step collagen system?

The 3 Step Collagen System consists of two collagen systems – one for the day and one for the night. These products are the first thing you apply once the cleaning routine is finished.

Once you cleanse the skin, dry, toning is really important to make sure you remove any water residue from the skin. I recommend using our Hydrating Boost Tonic Mist, after toning, everything you apply on the skin is staying on the skin. Collagen should be the first thing you apply after toning. The molecular weight of the collagen serum is very low so you can use this directly over the eyes.

Remember it was created for people that had burns, so very sensitive skin. If you have any cuts, burns, or abrasions, you can apply the collagen serum. This serum will absorb very quickly and deep into the skin. You can then apply secondary serums, maybe Epigen Daily Detox Serum or Redness Relief Complex. Or you can cocktail a serum and these should all be applied on top.

After these steps, next would be your eye cream on top, and then your moisturizer.

The third product in the set is our AHA Active Exfoliator. This can be worked up to being used every day for a client that needs the extra stimulation. The optimum time to use the exfoliator is 3 times a week. Using it 3 times a week with the collagen every morning and every night, we can see hydration increase up to 200% after 4 weeks, up to 8 weeks it increases to 245%, and after 12 weeks it’s 264%. So you’re really able to see a huge progression within the skin as you carry on using the products.

Is there a spa you can recommend to experience QMS and which treatment should we check out?

The Four Seasons Philadelphia Spa features QMS in their services. We have plenty of different treatment options there, as in all of our spas globally. One particular treatment I love is the Collagen Rejuvenating Facial treatment. What’s great about this treatment is that the skin is left firmer and with more volume and it visibly reduces fine lines, plus skin texture is improved as well.

Does QMS have any celebrity fans and if so what are their favorite products?

Makeup artist Donald Mowat is a big QMS fan as well as Glenn Close and Renée Zellweger. Both use the collagen set and Epigen products. Donald uses QMS on many of his celebrity clients as well.

Besides your collagen products, are there any other signature must-try products we should know about? Any new launches that we should watch out for?

The QMS Epigen Collection is amazing for anyone who lives in a city where they can be exposed to more pollution in the air. As for new products, we’ve actually just launched body products: an Active Exfoliant 5% Body Foam and Firming Collagen Body Lotion. Both work incredibly well!
