Week 15 of Weekly Wellness: A Spa Treatment With My Favorite Add-On

My #WeekWellness2021 Week 15 was spent on vacation, which gave me all sorts of wellness vibes from time with family, plenty of sunshine, the beach, a visit to the happiest place on earth, and of course, my favorite: a trip to the spa. With a fun-filled, jammed-packed week in the books, a little alone time and a spa experience was just what I needed!

Week 14 of Weekly Wellness: A Quick Lash Lift and Tint

I booked a specialty body treatment/massage treatment with an upgrade. In addition to the deep-tissue rub-down, I opted for a floral, hot-oil scalp treatment enhancement. Scalp massage is one of the most relaxing therapies for me, so when I noticed it on the menu I couldn’t pass it up. While the entire spa experience was superb, I’ll focus on the scalp for this week’s wellness wrap-up.

A Must-Have Add-On

After my 80-minute service, my massage therapist fastened a towel wrap snugly around my temples and began by pouring a warm, fragrant floral oil at the base of my head. She continued by rubbing the nourishing product throughout my hair and proceeded to massage all parts of my scalp with moderate pressure for 10+ glorious minutes, lifting my neck to each side to further work in the oil and get all sections of the head with both circular and kneading strokes. To me, nothing feels better than this! The oil used was nourishing, leaving my hair soft and silky for the next few days.

Scalp Massage Benefits

In addition to utter relaxation, scalp massage renews the mind and body. With head massage comes an increase in circulation, which with consistence many believe promotes hair growth and follicle health. Like facial massage, appropriate pressure on the scalp and around the temples relieves tension, especially for those who suffer from ongoing headaches. Like other forms of massage, scalp massage has been linked to improvements in blood pressure, heart rate, and overall immune function.

I’ve found that scalp massage is one of those “love it or hate it” type of things, as many are sensitive and don’t like any type of tugging at the hair. I obviously fall under the “love it” category and feel a lift in my mood, stress and energy levels, and overall well-being with any scalp service I can get.
