What is Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Photofacial and How Can it Help You?
At The K Spa, we offer patients Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Photofacial—a non-invasive, non-ablative light treatment that focuses on treating fine lines and wrinkles, discoloration, skin tone, sun damage, vascular lesions, or capillary inflammation. Its long-term effects can actually reverse the signs of aging, and the range and wavelength of the light emitted is adjusted to accommodate your skin’s needs and concerns.
Intense pulsed light treatments work to some extent with everyone and can be adjusted for a spectrum of skin tones. They are ideal for those with light to medium complexions—this is usually because fair skin is relatively elastic. However, IPL can be used more or less anywhere on your body, including your face, neck, chest, shoulders, back arms, legs, and other areas.
Additional conditions that can be improved with IPL treatment include:
Brown and Red Spots
Freckles
Spider Veins
Broken Veins
Redness
Rosacea
Pigment Imperfections
While a standard laser focuses just one wavelength of light on your skin, IPL releases light of many different wavelengths, like a photo flash. IPL penetrates down to the second layer of your skin (dermis) without harming the top layer (epidermis), so it causes less damage to skin. Light energy from the IPL is absorbed by the pigment cells in your skin and is then converted into heat, which clears out the unwanted pigment as well as overactive pigment-producing cells, resulting in an even distribution of the pigmented area.
The length of each appointment will depend on how many areas you’re treating. In order to achieve optimal results, you may need to complete 3 to 5 treatments—the length of each appointment will depend on how many areas you’re having treated. We recommend that you wait four weeks between each 45-minute or so procedure.
