Channel Positive Energy, Happiness and Wealth With These Crystal Troll Dolls

Jewelry designer Hannah Greenblum of BLONDE OMEN is known for her unique crystal troll dolls.

Remember those troll dolls from childhood with their mohawk-inspired hair that came in all the colors of the rainbow? They're back with an awesome upgrade: now you can get them with hair made from crystals, rose gold-plating and diamond belly buttons. Not only are they stunning statement pieces but they can also help channel positive energy, happiness, wealth and more!

Los Angeles-based jewelry designer Hannah Greenblum started BLONDE OMEN in 2013, and offers a full line of crystal trolls, which she shares on her popular Instagram (@blondeomen). She also creates a line of beautiful handmade jewelry using bronze, sterling sliver, precious metals, gemstones and crystals.

We had the chance to sit down with Greenblum and learn more about her inspiration, the significance of crystals, and how she got the idea for the troll dolls in the first place:

Greenblum also makes crystal troll jewelry.

SPA INSIDER: What do you do and where are you based?

BLONDE OMEN: BLONDE OMEN is the design house I created while living in Austin, Texas. I'm a designer that makes jewelry and fine art. I have been creating for 10 years now, and I'm located in Los Angeles, California.

Some troll dolls are rose gold-plated and have diamond belly buttons.

SPA INSIDER: Where did the idea for the troll dolls come from, and what are the different materials you use?

BLONDE OMEN: Crystals are a big part of my life. I’ve always been attracted to them aesthetically, but since I’ve been living in LA I’ve become more attracted to their metaphysical side. I always have a lot of crystals displayed around my home and have incorporated them into previous projects.

I thrifted a troll doll without hair and thought I could replace it with crystals to combine positive energy with aesthetic nostalgia. I primarily used the original plastic troll dolls, but I also started experimenting with other materials.

I originally started as a jewelry designer and thought it would be cool to make the same product but in metal. Using my metal smith skills, i made a troll in brass, set a diamond in its belly, rose gold-plated the entire troll, and then added the crystal hair.

I use the crystals for their healing properties and natural beauty. I mainly work with clear quartz for the trolls, but I’ve also tried a few other types of quartz. Clear quartz is known as the master healer of crystals. Gold is known as the highest healer and attracts positive energy—it's said to be used to bring wealth, happiness and feelings of comfort. Diamond is an energy amplifier—it's a stone that never requires charging and will enhance the power of other crystals.

Greenblum incorporates different crystals and metals for their various healing powers and abilities.

SPA INSIDER: Where are your items available for purchase?

BLONDE OMEN: You can purchase them off my website. I also sell them at Spellbound Sky in Los Angeles, California; Skye Gallery in Aspen, Colorado; and The Perfect Petal in Denver, Colorado. I love doing custom orders and getting to be really creative with a customer's idea.

Greenblum also sells unique jewelry like this enameled arrowhead necklace.

SPA INSIDER: What else do you make?

BLONDE OMEN: I also make jewelry. I mostly work with sterling silver and gold, using wax casting to produce it. I also make enameled copper jewelry and I have an enameled arrowhead collection I’m working on.

I’m currently finishing my new silver and gold collection, and I want to incorporate more precious gemstones and crystals into my work. In my new line I’ll be using pink and yellow sapphires, emeralds and different colored diamonds. I also just made my first gold troll necklace, turning my crystal sculpture into wearable art.
