A unique resort destination in Northern New Mexico, Ojo Caliente Mineral Sprints Resort & Spa is a secluded refuge famous for its healing waters and natural spa treatments. From nurturing massages to restorative body therapies, the spa's diverse menu offers an array of treatments that incorporate Ojo's private blend of wildcrafted herbs and oils. Spa Director Veronica Maes took us on a special tour of the spa, sharing additional insight into the treatments and amenities offered at this magical retreat.

Why You’ll Love It: Our healing waters. People have been coming here for centuries to ‘take the waters.’ We’re the only hot springs in the world with the unique combination of four minerals including iron, arsenic, soda and lithia. Our historic bath house, which is used as our spa lounge as well as some of our treatment rooms, was built in 1868.

We also offer daily yoga classes. We’re situated on 1,100 acres backing miles of wild open spaces on BLM (Bureau of Land Management) land. We were also named the No. 4 Best Domestic Destination Spa by Travel + Leisure for 2017. We’re one of the oldest health resorts in the country. This year we’re celebrating 150 years, although people have been taking the waters at Ojo for centuries.

The Posi Suites include Pueblo modern details such as reclaimed barn wood throughout and private outdoor patios that border the stunning cliffs near the Springs.

Key Features: In addition to 12 mineral pools, we offer a eucalyptus steam room and dry sauna. We have private soaking tubs and pools. Our two-acre farm provides fresh produce for our restaurant. We offer our Ojo shower amenities, custom-made for us from El Milagro Herbs.

The Mineral Pools are open daily from 9:30 am - 10 pm for day guests.

Bonus: Each spa service uses hot towels, which are soaked in Ojo’s healing mineral waters and infused with locally wild crafted herbs: pinon, herba mansa, potentilla and artemisia. For our Clay and Enzyme Wrap, our guests are gifted the three loofah sponges that are used in their session. All spa guests get a locker, towel and robe to use for the day.

The Earth Keepers' Hot Stone Massage incorporates warm, oiled basalt stones to soothe tired muscles.

Snacks Served: We have a two-acre farm, and our restaurant and lounge utilize the fresh produce from the farm. Our gift shop also serves snacks and refreshments, as well as farm products.

Splurge: Our Ojo Dreamin.’ The treatment begins with an 80-minute Essence of Ojo Custom Massage and steaming hot Ojo herbal towels to melt away muscle tension. This is followed by a scalp massage using Round Barn Apothecary Hair Therapy to strengthen and repair damaged hair. The treatment completes with Reflexology Foot Therapy to balance your energy, leaving your mind and body revitalized.

Yoga classes are offered seven days a week for guests practicing at all levels.

Most Unique Treatment: Our Ancient Echoes Treatment. A journey into yourself based on East Indian head massage techniques. This therapy will take you on a voyage that explores a variety of massage and energy balancing techniques of the upper back, shoulders, arms, neck, scalp, face and ears. It is finished off with a luxurious foot massage, which helps to relieve stress, soothes, comforts and balances your energy, supports hair growth, eases headaches, insomnia and eye strain. It provides relief from aches and pains, promoting a deep sense of calm and tranquility.

Insider Favorite: Our Detoxifying Clay Body Wrap. After a stimulating loofah exfoliation, you’ll be covered in an enzyme mixture, followed by a warm, rich clay to draw out impurities without drying your skin. This unique blend combined with a hot Ojo herbal towel wrap infuses nutrients and trace minerals to reveal fresh, glowing, softer skin.

The diverse landscape ranges from the lush river valley to stunning high desert mesas – all of which contain numerous hiking and biking trails for guests to explore.

Featured Products: Round Barn Apothecary Skin Care Line. Their mission is to create small batch, nutrient-rich, thoughtful skincare that’s locally harvested, natural and effective because it’s rooted in the science of nature’s wisdom. The line is produced by the steward of our resort, Jen Scott. When she couldn’t find products that honored natural beauty and resilience of the surrounding environment, she looked no further than the ground she stood on to create her own nutrient-rich product line.
