Spa Review: The Spa and Salon at The Brown Palace Offers Seasonal Treatments That Make Everyone Feel Merry and Bright

Afternoon Tea Service at The Brown Palace Hotel and Spa is a popular event in December.

I recently got into the holiday spirit when I visited the spa inside The Brown Palace Hotel and Spa in downtown Denver recently for a Merry & Bright Facial and the Holiday Spice Massage. What better way to get holiday party-ready than to spend a day getting pampered at the historic hotel and spa?

December is a popular month for guests of the hotel and locals to indulge in the Afternoon Tea Service offered Monday through Friday from Noon to 4 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Live music accompanies the service including an array of piano, harp, and other lounge and cabaret-style music.

When I visited The Spa and Salon at The Brown Palace for my services in the afternoon, I walked through the area where guests were enjoying the tea service. Everyone was dressed in their holiday finest, eating an assortment of finger sandwiches, Devonshire Cream, scones, and a selection of classic tea pastries. It was a festive scene.

The reception area of the spa showcased a colorful Christmas tree.

After checking in at the reception area, I was offered a glass of champagne to enjoy before my services. The woman who checked me in gave me a tour of the spa and its amenities that included a steam room, beautifully tiled showers, private changing rooms, and an assortment of teas.

Waiting for me in my locker were several samples of Overnight Texture Renewal Peel and Universal Daily Peel by Dr. Dennis Gross, a product line used at the spa.

Guests can enjoy amenities including the steam room, cold towelettes, and toiletries.

I sipped on herbal tea and champagne as I waited in the relaxation area of the women’s locker room before my massage. Afterwards, my massage therapist led me to one of the six treatment rooms in the spa and explained that I would be getting the Holiday Spice Massage ($190), a 50-minute massage that includes CBD oil and warm volcanic stones to soothe tense muscles.

Lockers are stocked with plush spa robes, sandals, and spa towels to use in the steam room or showers.

I was also offered several add-ons (I chose Clary Sage aromatherapy and a hot oil scalp massage). I felt an immediate benefit from the CBD oil. After the massage, the anti-inflammatory oil worked its magic, dissolving any and all tension I had been holding in my hips and thighs.

Deepening the release of lingering muscle tension was the addition of hot volcanic stones, which were used at various points during the treatment.

A luxurious suite for two at the spa.

After my massage, I was treated to The Merry & Bright Facial ($225) that is touted to brighten, exfoliate, and plump skin, staving off brittle and dry skin that is common in winter weather.

My facialist applied several gentle chemical peels and used an LED face mask, a treatment that uses skin-safe, low-level light in different wavelengths and colors that penetrates into the skin to trigger its natural processes to repair the skin and boost collagen.

End result: smooth, even-toned skin that’s ready for any holiday occasion.

The spa offers five main skin care treatments as well as seasonal offerings like the Merry & Bright Facial.
