Beauty Boss: Danny Alexander, Co-Founder of Good Time

Danny Alexander.

Our latest Beauty Boss is Danny Alexander, Co-Founder of Good Time—a line of plastic-free and cruelty-free soap bar products for hair, body, and face. The sustainable vegan brand has received multiple national beauty awards and its products are formulated with high-quality, clean ingredients that have been tested (not on animals) for health and safety.

Earth-Friendly Beauty: Eco-Conscious and Sustainable Brands

The concentrated formulas feature nourishing ingredients such as marula oil, jojoba oil, and shea butter, with one Good Time Bar being equivalent to three liquid bottle of product. Dedicated to making a positive impact on the world, 50% of the brand’s profits are donated to support clean water initiatives.

Good Time is also the sister brand to Who Gives a Crap, a line of toilet paper with colorful packaging that uses half of its profits to build toilets in areas of the world that lack access. Since launching with a crowdfunding campaign on IndieGoGo in July 2012, they have raised over $50,000 to help build toilets and improve sanitation in the developing world.

Parker Clay’s Community Fundraising Campaign Empowers Sustainable Consumers

We chatted with Alexander who shared his favorite wellness tips, secrets for success, best advice, and much more.

When was Good Time founded and what does the name mean?

Good Time launched in August 2022 with the mission to remove plastic from people’s bathrooms while helping to give everyone in the world access to clean water. As the name suggests, our products are aimed at delivering a good time—for our customers, communities, and the planet.

What inspired the creation of the brand?

When we looked at ways to increase our impact, we realised that the shower is a place where plastic bottles just seem to pile up. So we created Good Time—a sister brand to the well-established household essentials brand, Who Gives a Crap—who both share the same values and mission to help people do good without making compromises. Good Time is the new experience of body and hair care that is formulated to make the every day extraordinary with added delightful fragrances for all to enjoy. The range is infused with certified sustainable and natural ingredients.

Good Time adheres to the same level of sustainable and impact standards as Who Gives A Crap—they both are certified B Corps, offer carbon neutral shipping, and donate 50% of profits to nonprofit partners.

How did you come up with the packaging designs?

We wanted to create a sensorial brand to reflect the shower experience. We lean into caught moments in time and capture the story of each product and its unique fragrance. Rather than labelling our bars “Botanical” or “Citrus,” we’ve chosen to evoke the moment that aligns with the scent. We describe our products with “Smells like” and “Feels like” language. Our packaging offers a visual glimpse into these fragrance stories.

Does Good Time have a hero product?

With eight beauty and personal care awards across our eight products, it’s hard to pick one that stands out above the rest! That being said, our Hydrating Shampoo Bar is our most popular selling item and is really popular across all ages and genders. Our Gentle Cleansing Face Bar and Exfoliating Body Bar are constantly fighting for second place.

The Hydrating Hair Duo ($28) cleanses and conditions hair without stripping it of essential moisture.

What are your favorite products from the brand?

One of the biggest challenges our team and our customers have experienced in switching to bar products was storage. Our bathrooms have been built for bottles, so there’s no good place to store three or four bar products without them getting wet and icky! We spent a year and a half developing a breakthrough magnetic bar holder that allows your bars to look good, dry quickly and, in keeping with our brand promise, makes the whole shower experience a good time!

Where are your products sold?

Good Time is sold direct-to-consumer on our website as well as on Amazon. We might expand into retail in the future to plug into existing shopping routines. Stay tuned!

Future plans for the brand?

We continue to look into new products, making sure that people don’t have to choose between sustainable products and great quality. Our plan is to extend our offering of products that are gentler on the planet, but still create an experience our customers will deem a Good Time.

Who inspires you?

I feel like I should say someone whose name you would recognize, but the truest answer is my wife, Mari. She’s the most creative person I know and sees the world with a view of possibility and optimism that inspires me every day!

Secret to success?

Most importantly, I think, is gratitude. Yes, there’s a lot of hard work involved in being successful, but I find that the more grateful I am and the more positivity I put into the world, the more successful I end up being.

Beauty secrets?

I’m probably the wrong person to ask this—I’m a minimalist in my routine, but I will say that my skin feels softer ever since we launched our Exfoliating Body Bar!

Wellness tips?

Stop sitting! It’s so easy for many of us to spend 8 or 10 hours a day sitting at a desk, but sitting is terrible for my mental health and physical health (and yours, too!) I’ve made the switch to a standing desk and feel the difference in my energy levels, my back, and much more.

Best advice?

Live 10% beyond your comfort zone.

Favorite way to relax?

I love to take walks and hikes with my son. He’s a year and a half old and I absolutely love watching him experience the world. Every day is filled with wonder and I find he helps me stay present and grateful.
