Behind the Brand: Dirty Dog Beauty Club Offers Playful and Effective Grooming Products That Are Safe for Pets
When it comes to our fur babies, there’s nothing we wouldn’t do for them. According to a new report from Bloomberg Intelligence, the pet industry is predicted to grow to $500 billion by 2030. Pet owners are more invested in their pets’ health than ever with an increasing number of pet wellness, food, and supplement brands that have launched over the past decade alone.
Despite the increasing interest and awareness of the importance of pet health and wellness, surprisingly the Food and Drug Administration does not regulate grooming products that are considered “cosmetic” for animals. Unfortunately, manufacturers of pet grooming products aren’t required to adhere to labeling requirements for human personal care products, which can put our beloved pets’ health at risk.
Shocked by this sad truth, animal lover Jessica Teicher set out to disrupt the pet care industry by launching a safe, effective, and affordable pet care brand with an all-star team of experts including renowned veterinarians Dr. Vernard Hodges and Dr. Terrence Ferguson of NatGeo’s hit show “Critter Fixers” and beauty industry experts Nathan Newman and Natalie Mackey behind the award-winning clean beauty brand Winky Lux.

“As a passionate animal advocate and proud owner of two Bulldogs, dogs are my life!” Teicher says. “I was appalled by the lack of good products out there for my dogs, so I got a dream team together to create great products without any toxic or harmful ingredients at an accessible price point.”
All of Dirty Dog Beauty Club’s products are vegan, sustainable, human-grade, and formulated without any toxic or harmful ingredients. All of the products feature cute names and colorful packaging that further enhances the pet care experience to make self-care more fun for pets and their owners.

“Most people don’t know that a dog's skin is only 3 to 5 cells thick, whereas human skin is 10 to 15 cells thick,” Dr. Hodges points out. “That means they absorb potentially harmful chemicals into their body more easily than us.”
Dr. Ferguson adds, “Combine that scientific fact with the endless choices and confusion faced by pet owners, and you have a potentially harmful situation that most pet parents just aren’t aware of. We set out to create a line of grooming products that are as safe as they are fun to use because every baby deserves the best possible care.”

Dirty Dog Beauty Club also is aware of the powerful effect that dogs can have on a person’s mental health, especially those struggling with various issues and disabilities. The company is dedicated to de-stigmatizing mental health and supporting service dogs by donating a portion of proceeds to the nonprofit Paws4People, which trains and places Assistance Dogs in helping to transform people’s lives. In addition, Luxy (Chief executive Dog of Dirty Dog Beauty Club) also helps in the psychiatric field.
“DDBC is committed to “giving bark” and donates 1% of every dollar to Paws4People, aiding the provision of service dogs for individuals struggling with mental health challenges,” Teicher says.
We chatted with Teicher, who shared the inspiration behind the line, what’s next for the brand, and more.
When was Dirty Dog Beauty Club founded and what’s the meaning behind the name?
Dirty Dog Beauty Club (DDBC) was founded a bit over a year ago! We went with the name Dirty Dog Beauty Club because we produce clean products for dirty dogs AND we are building a fun community for dog parents to join.
Tell us more about your products and what makes them special.
DDBC makes self-care essentials for the modern dog. Our line of grooming products are as safe as they are fun to use, because every dog deserves the best possible care. With names like Disco Dog Shampoo x Conditioner and Humpday Spray, our brand brings humor and quirk to an otherwise stagnant category.
But it’s not just our cute names and youthful branding that set DDBC apart—we founded the company to tackle a serious lack of ingredient regulation in the pet grooming industry. Our products are vet and scientist formulated, sustainably-sourced, clean, vegan, cruelty-free, and made with love in the U.S.
Do you have a hero product? What’s your favorite?
Everyone is obsessed with Humpday Spray, a dog deodorizing spray for when your dog smells sketchy but you’re too tired to bathe them. Humpday smells amazing—think light sea salt and sage vibes on a breezy, fresh day. The Spray balances skin and fur with organic essential oils. The coolest part? You can even spray it on bedding, pillows, or anything else that needs a quick refresh.
