Behind the Brand: L'or de Seraphine's Luxury Candles Add an Elevated Touch to Home Decor
Growing up, Dara Weiss and her sister Laina watched their mother, an interior designer, create captivating spaces and transform houses into welcoming homes. They both grew to love patterns and colors just as much as she did, and when they started creating their own homes, they noticed that many of the scents they were seeking were minimalist candles.
Behind the Brand: Katie Kime’s Whimsical Prints and Personalized Products Inspire Everyday Living
They wanted to find the right objects to bring their spaces to life to make it feel like the quirky, colorful home they grew up in and as a result, L'or de Seraphine was born. The line of luxury scented candles comes in a variety of beautiful reusable ceramic containers that elevate any space. Their candles are hand-poured using premium palm wax and essential oils to ensure a clean and even burn, and the brand prioritizes environmentally responsible practices, using recyclable materials for packaging and natural ingredients for their scents.
Create the Ultimate Sanctuary with the Best Decorative and Scented Candles
Laina serves as Creative Director of the brand while Dara, who has an MBA from Columbia University focused on entrepreneurship and a Master in Strategic Design from Parsons, is the company’s CEO.
“I founded L'or de Seraphine to create beautiful home fragrances and decor, leveraging both my education and my family's tradition of creating and leading successful consumer products companies,” Dara says. “When creating L'or de Seraphine, our goal was to develop a beautiful home fragrance that married our love for home decor with our new passion for fragrance. Equally important was to make them feel luxurious while being attainable. We wanted L'or de Seraphine candles to be the perfect gift for yourself or loved ones that you could enjoy without feeling guilty about burning $150 (no pun intended).”
We chatted with Dara, who shared the inspiration behind the brand, favorite products, future plans, and more.
When was L’or de Seraphine founded and what’s the meaning behind the name?
L'or de Seraphine was founded in 2019. The name is actually French for "Seraphine's Gold." Gold was often seen as beneficial for health during medieval times, while the "Seraph" angels are regarded as guardians who provide warmth and comfort. We wanted all of our products to bring comfort, joy, and personality to a space to allow for personal expression and self-care.
Tell us more about your products and what makes them special.
Our products are created to transport and tell a story within your home—they all start with a feeling or place we want to invoke and we carefully craft the vessel design and scent around it to pull it all together to create a mini escape. It's so often that a candle is smelled but not always seen, and we wanted to make ours an art piece that adds personality and a sensory experience to your space.
Do you have a hero candle?
Mansour Marrakech continues to be a favorite throughout the years. The vessel is vibrant, exciting, and will add a beautiful pop of pattern to any space, but the scent truly stands out. It was created to be this energizing and awakening smell, and notes of citrus, ginger and green tea just bring it to life. We continually get told it’s a great “focus” or “productivity” candle.
What’s your favorite candle?
Frida is a favorite for our team right now. It's a part of our marble collection (and inspired by Frida Khalo), and not only is the vessel an excellent fit for many different spaces but it also has a beautiful and refreshing scent. The notes of fresh greens, jacaranda, and amber make it a bold and captivating scent that makes it feel like you're walking through wild gardens.
Where are your products sold?
You can find all our products on our website or at Nordstrom, Bloomingdale's, Cos Bar, DermStore, and at hundreds of boutiques across the U.S.
What's next for the brand?
Our Fall collection goes live on September 28 and we’ll be releasing our Holiday collection in mid-October, which we are excited to share. Fall encapsulates everything cozy and comforting about the season, while our holiday is a celebration of pine and all the sentimental moments that come with the festivities.
