With the increase in popularity, inspiration for learning new skills and style is everywhere. I’ve enjoyed going down the rabbit hole, watching mesmerizing videos of talented roller skaters and admiring their unique styles.

For beginning skaters looking to get started on their skating journey, Lucy Croysdill, Head Coach and Co-Founder of Rolla Skate Club—an inclusive roller skating community that empowers women through education, fitness, fun, and sisterhood—recommends getting in touch with your local skate shop.

“There are lots of amazing small businesses, many of them owned by women, that will be able to give you advice based on your preference and also keep you updated on what is available,” says Croysdill.

Rolla Skate Club offers virtual roller skate workshops and classes, including their video on Top Tips for Beginner Skaters. 

“We highly recommend wearing protective gear when you are learning to roller skate,” shares Croysdill. Her advice for beginners includes wearing a helmet (a bike helmet works just fine), wrist guards, and knee pads. “Most importantly, learn how to stop and fall properly. We have a free beginner video series that will help!”
