Celebrate Father's Day With These Cocktail Recipes From Resorts and Hotels

From a summery take on the Old Fashioned to a signature Paris Mule—some of the hottest hotels and resorts across the globe have shared unique and delightful cocktail recipes that are both sophisticated and straightforward, perfect for crafting at home for Dad on Father’s Day.

Whether you’re celebrating together or miles apart, you can easily mix these drinks up in your kitchen and toast to the honor or memory of the special father figure in your life.

In celebration of Father’s Day and the start of the summer season, Southern California’s most luxurious beachside retreat has created a refreshingly light, citrus-focused take on the classic Old Fashioned cocktail. The flavors of orange and grapefruit are combined with bourbon and a house-made thyme simple syrup to transport drinkers to the seaside Miramar Beach Bar and bring on a transcendent sense of ease.

Ingredients:

  • 1 Orange

  • 1 Grapefruit

  • ½ cup Bourbon

  • 7 dashes Angostura Bitters

  • 1 batch of Thyme Simple Syrup (recipe below)

  • Water or Sparkling Water to garnish

  • Garnish: Orange Twists, Thyme Sprigs

Instructions: 

  1. Section the orange and grapefruit and cut into bite sized chunks.

  2. In a pitcher, combine fruit, bourbon, bitters, and thyme simple syrup.

  3. Top with 1 ½ cups of sparkling water.

  4. Pour over ice in a rocks/old fashioned glass.

  5. Garnish with an orange twist and thyme.

*Thyme Simple Syrup:

  • ¼ cup water

  • ¼ cup sugar

  • 4-5 sprigs fresh thyme

Rum Manhattan from Rosewood Little Dix Bay (Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands)

The iconic Caribbean resort created a unique twist on the classic Manhattan by swapping out the traditional bourbon for rum to produce a more rich and buttery flavor. This straightforward recipe uses only four ingredients, and is perfect for after-dinner drinks that will have you feeling as if you’re far away in the British Virgin Islands this Father’s Day.

Ingredients:

  • 60 ml. El Dorado Rum 12 years    

  • 30 ml. Mancino Sweet Vermouth

  • 3 dashes Chocolate Bitters 

  • Garnish: Cherry or Orange Zest 

Instructions:

  1. Put all ingredients in a mixing glass or a wine glass.

  2. Add ice and stir for 6 second using a spoon.

  3. Discard ice and pour into a rock glass or a Martini glass.

  4. Garnish with a cherry or a simple orange zest.

Bee’s Wax Old Fashioned from Las Ventanas al Paraiso, A Rosewood Resort (Los Cabos, Mexico)

An innovative take on a classic drink, this smokey Old Fashioned will evoke the underground feel of a speakeasy from home this Father’s Day. Offered at Los Cabos’ first hotel speakeasy, La Botica, the cocktail adds a sweet topping to contrast the velvety drink.

Ingredients:

  • 10g Edible Beeswax

  • 510ml Johnnie Walker Double Black

  • 60 ml Syrup

  • 10ml Honey

  • 60ml Water

  • 2.7ml Angostura Bitter

  • 1.8ml Peychaud Bitter

Instructions:

  1. Combine all ingredients in a shaker filled with ice and shake.

  2. Strain into a chilled glass.

  3. Garnish with edible beeswax.

Smoky Anejo Old Fashioned from The Mansion Bar at Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek (Dallas, TX)

For those who prefer tequila cocktails, The Mansion Bar—a Dallas staple since it opened in 1980—created another great Old Fashioned alternative that puts smoky flavor of mezcal front and center, complemented by a dash of cinnamon, classic bitters, and a cherry garnish.

Ingredients:

  • Muddled Peel of Orange 

  • 2 dashes Angostura Bitters

  • 1 dash Orange Bitters

  • Light dusting of Fresh Grated Cinnamon

  • 2 oz Anejo Tequila

  • 1/2 oz John D Taylor Velvet Falernum

  • 1/2 oz or more Mezcal

  • Garnish: Amarena Cherries

Instructions:

  1. Muddle orange peel in the bottom of the glass.

  2. Combine all ingredients in the glass.

  3. Add ice and stir.

If you are using large format ice, then it is ideal to mix all ingredients in mixing glass then pour over ice in rocks glass.

Parisian Mule Cocktail from Hôtel de Crillon, A Rosewood Hotel (Paris, France)

A favorite at the lively Bar Les Ambassadeurs, the Parisian Mule cocktail from Hôtel de Crillon, A Rosewood Hotel brings a light and fresh twist to a classic drink. Add some music and dancing, and fathers will feel as if they are celebrating their day at one of the most iconic and glamorous bars in Paris.

Ingredients:

  • 1 bar spoon of Absinthe

  • ⅓ oz. Elderflower Cordial

  • ⅔ oz. Lime Juice

  • 1 ⅓ oz. Vodka

  • Ginger Beer (to taste)

  • Ice

  • Dry Lime Slice and/or Star Anise

Directions:

  1. Fill a Mule cup with ice.

  2. Pour the absinthe, elderflower cordial, lime juice, and vodka in the cup and top with ginger beer. Stir gently to combine.

  3. Top with crushed ice and garnish with a dry lime slice and/or star anise.

  4. Serve with a straw or a cocktail stirrer.

Tea Time Cocktail from The Reeds at Shelter Haven (Stone Harbor, New Jersey)

Available at the Water Star Grille, the hotel’s upscale American bistro overlooking the water, the Tea Time cocktail is the perfect sweet-yet-refreshing drink to treat Dad to after a long, relaxing day on the golf course or at the beach.

Ingredients:

  • 2oz Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka

  • 1/2 oz Freshly Squeezed Lemon Juice

  • 3 muddled Strawberries

  • 3 dashes Fresh Ground Black Pepper

  • Ginger Beer

  • Fresh Mint Sprig

Directions:

  1. Add vodka, lemon juice, strawberries, and black pepper to a shaker with ice.

  2. Shake vigorously for 30 seconds.

  3. Strain over fresh ice in a mason jar.

  4. Top with ginger beer and garnish with a fresh mint sprig.

Odette’s Old Fashioned from River House at Odette’s (New Hope, PA)

This classic American cocktail fits right in at Odette’s Restaurant, once the site that bore Odette Myrtil’s boisterous cabaret. Try your hand at crafting one of America’s oldest known cocktail recipes, and treat dad to a nice bottle of Rye Whiskey or Bourbon to make it.

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Rye Whiskey or Bourbon of choice

  • 1 Sugar Cube

  • 2 dashes Angostura Bitters

  • Splash Water

  • Orange Peel

Directions:

  1. Place sugar cube in the center of an empty glass, add bitters directly to sugar cube then splash water.

  2. Muddle ingredients into a syrup, about 10 seconds.

  3. Fill glass with ice and pour over your spirit of choice.

  4. Stir 30 revolutions.

  5. Strain into an empty rocks glass, garnish with fresh orange peel.

Rosewood Bermuda Old Fashioned from Rosewood Bermuda (Bermuda)

Bermudian rum and liqueur brings a tropical feel to this cocktail, with notes of tropical fruits, spices, and vanilla for a delicious taste. Paying homage to the classic Old Fashioned, this Father’s Day dads can sip on the drink while daydreaming of days in the Bermudian sun with the stunning backdrop of Castle Harbor and the Atlantic Ocean from Rosewood Bermuda’s Conservatory Bar.

Ingredients:

  • 2.5 oz. Bacardi Rosewood Bermuda Exclusive Blend

  • 0.5 oz. Bermuda Gold Loquat Liqueur

  • 4 Dashes Tucker’s Bar Blend Bitters (A blend of Angostura, Old Fashioned and Orange Bitters)

  • Orange Twist

Directions:

  1. In a mixing glass filled with ice, combine all ingredients and stir for 8 seconds.

  2. Strain into a glass filled with ice.

  3. Garnish with an orange twist.
