The world of wellness and relaxation has officially gone virtual, as Esqapes announced the opening of the world’s first virtual reality massage center in Los Angeles in July. Combining automated massages with virtual reality, Esqapes transports guests to a place of relaxation via propriety and exclusive environments that have been specifically designed to help people de-stress by stepping out of one world and into another. Perfect for a lunchtime break during the work week, Esqapes offers users a mini vacation at a fraction of the cost.

Esqapes taps into the key senses that people use to evaluate their surroundings (sight, sound, smell, touch), which in turn helps them to relax and feel comfortable. To heighten the experience, carefully curated fragrances are paired with programmed, automated massages and an array of beautiful virtual environments that range from an oceanfront resort to a Moroccan paradise. Guests enjoy cool breezes that gently glide across the room carrying fragrances that complement the chosen setting, as well as the option of warmth, creating multi-dimensional worlds that users will have completely to themselves.

Creator Micah Jackson has a long history of interactive design and innovation, previously working for AOL, Yahoo, Disney, and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. In 2017, his first virtual reality project ‘Where Angels Meet,’ was chosen by Oculus/Facebook to receive funding as part of their prestigious Launchpad program. In 2018, he began to experiment with virtual reality experiences that transported viewers to beautiful places—and Esqapes was ultimately born.

“The goal of Esqapes is to provide guests with a unique way to relax and take a break from the routines, responsibilities and daily issues that can cause anxiety and stress,” says Jackson. “Esqapes is using virtual reality in ways unlike any other company, which is to de-stress and help people relax. With a combination of proprietary software and traditional wellness practices, Esqapes is offering the spa of the future—today!”

Esqapes pairs fantastic, beautifully crafted, virtual environments with a soothing massage to transport a guests’ minds and bodies to another place.
