Last June, Therapy Lab opened its doors in Downtown Los Angeles to offer innovative and accessible therapy sessions that are tailored for each person’s individual needs. Founded by licensed psychologist Dr. Chandler Chang, the science-based therapy practice offers a variety of packages and plans designed to help support one’s mental goals in an efficient, transparent and effective manner.

We spoke with Dr. Chang, who shared more insight into the inspiration behind her therapy practice, the unique services she offers, and more.

When was Therapy Lab founded and where is it located?

Therapy Lab opened its doors in June 2019. We are located in Downtown Los Angeles.

What inspired Therapy Lab’s creation?

I was inspired to create Therapy Lab after a decade of working with clients in my traditional private practice, Golden Hour Therapy. I noticed an increasing demand for mental health and wellness services and a decrease in stigma around seeking help. More than ever, people are interested in self-reflection and mental wellness as part of their self-care routine!

Therapy Lab was created to help make therapy more accessible and efficient. At Therapy Lab, we believe in using innovation and evidence-based treatment so that our clients can get the most out of their therapy in a limited time frame. Knowing what to expect creates momentum and motivation for the client.

I was inspired by the decrease in stigma around mental health care, and was determined to build community and relaxation into the therapy experience! I saw an opportunity to enhance the therapy experience by building a comfortable communal waiting space that incorporates beautiful design, aromatherapy, relaxing music and refreshments, so clients feel like they’re visiting a beautiful spa!

What services does Therapy Lab offer?

Therapy Lab creates a new paradigm for therapy by offering a menu of different packages so clients can create their course based on personal goals. All of our treatments utilize science-based interventions to ensure high-quality care.

Here are some of our packages:

  • Relationship Tonic​: Stress in friendships, dating apps, and breakups often drive people to therapy. We’ll offer you an objective POV and help you identify unhelpful interpersonal patterns and practice new approaches. (8 sessions)

  • Unified Protoco​l: Our most popular therapy series based on the Unified Protocol—a modern blend of CBT, mindfulness, and behavior activation. Reexamine your logic and create new habits while learning to manage your emotions. (16 sessions)

  • Adulting​: We use positive psychology, behavior activation, and tools for motivation and procrastination to meet your goals in primary relationships, personal finances, career, and general lifestyle. (10 session)

  • Positive Psychology​: Using Positive Psychology, we help you identify your strengths and values as you reexamine your priorities and routine. (4 sessions)

Our team is lead by Founder and CEO, Dr. Chandler Chang, who offers expertise based on almost two decades of clinical experience, both in private practice (as the founder of Golden Hour Therapy) and at prestigious research-oriented psychology programs, including UCLA and NYU’s Child Study Center, and an undergraduate degree from Princeton University.

All of our clinicians have advanced degrees in mental health and are trained in evidence based interventions to ​ensure rigorous standards of consistent, quality treatment.​ Our clinicians use treatment protocols designed to give you valuable insight and information at each session. We provide you the space to tell us about your life, your circumstances, and your goals for treatment.
