Inside Plume Spa & Wellness: Southern Utah’s Ultimate Oasis for High-Tech Recovery and Desert Relaxation

Black Desert Resort is a luxury getaway nestled amidst ancient lava fields and surrounded by vermilion cliffs.

There is a distinct magic that happens when you drive into Southern Utah. The sudden shift from northern valleys to the dramatic, fiery vermilion sandstone cliffs and striking black lava beds of Greater Zion never fails to take my breath away.

On a recent weekend getaway, my family and I packed our bags and headed to the newly opened Black Desert Resort in Ivins, Utah — a sprawling, 600-acre oasis that is quickly becoming the crown jewel of luxury desert hospitality.

Anchored by a Tom Weiskopf-designed championship golf course (set to host both PGA and LPGA tour events), the resort feels integrated into the ancient volcanic landscape.

An indoor rock garden serves as a serene, grounding focal point inside Plume Spa.

Between settling into our gorgeous, ultra-spacious two-bedroom suite, watching golfers tee off against the backdrop of black basalt rock, dining on incredible local cuisine, and splashing in the pristine resort pool with the kids, I had one very specific destination on my radar: Plume Spa & Wellness.

Spa Profile: Plume Spa & Wellness

As a lifelong spa devotee based in Utah, I’ve watched our local wellness scene evolve beautifully, but the pre-opening buzz surrounding Plume Spa’s high-tech longevity and recovery focus was next-level. I couldn't wait to step inside and see if it lived up to the hype.

A refreshing way to start my spa journey: Plume's Shot of Joy Ritual.

First Impressions & The Welcoming Ritual

Perched elegantly within the resort, your journey to Plume begins the moment you step into the main entrance. After pausing to take in the vast, floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the shimmering pool and emerald greens, you take the elevator to the dedicated spa level.

The aesthetic is immediately soothing — an earthy, sophisticated sanctuary that mirrors the organic textures of the surrounding desert. The name Plume itself is a nod to both the majestic volcanic plumes that sculpted this landscape and a delicate feather found on the desert floor during the resort's creation.

Before my treatment, I spent some time perusing the retail boutique, which is stocked with curated, high-end skincare brands, luxury resort wear, and artisanal wellness pieces. After checking in, I was treated to the spa's signature opening ritual: the Shot of Joy. This delicious elixir — a bright, refreshing blend infused with flower essences and local honey — instantly awakened my senses.

From there, I was escorted to the locker room to change into a plush, rust-orange Plume robe, and slides. The rich clay hue of the robe was a gorgeous, thoughtful design detail that felt so beautifully connected to the Southern Utah earth.

The Vibe & The Longevity Lounge

Stepping into the relaxation spaces, I immediately noticed that Plume Spa was beautifully buzzing, yet incredibly well-managed and serene. Interestingly, there was a much larger male clientele than I typically see at luxury spas. It’s a testament to the resort's brilliant design: golfers and hikers are actively utilizing the spa’s state-of-the-art recovery services to soothe their muscles after a day on the turf or the red-rock trails.

The relaxation lounge offers an elevated array of complimentary bites and sips, ranging from savory-sweet goat cheese and granola protein bites to Lotus Wei meditation chocolates, gemstone-infused waters, and signature herbal teas.

Joyful fortunes to experience are available for guests to enjoy within the relaxation space.

A little unexpected wisdom to contemplate during an afternoon of rest.

I settled into a cozy lounger in the relaxation lounge, sipping a warm cup of signature peach-rooibos herbal tea. Right next to me was another interactive "Joy" experience — a beautiful glass vessel filled with tiny, colorful rolled-up fortunes.

Unrolling a few of these uplifting words of wisdom was a delightful, mindful touch that set the perfect, lighthearted tone before my treatments began.

High-Tech Healing: My Longevity Journey

Plume Spa is a massive 15,000-square-foot facility boasting 13 state-of-the-art treatment rooms, but what truly sets it apart is its Longevity Lounge—a futuristic hub of bio-hacking and restorative therapies.

The stunning interior of the longevity lounge opens to a bright outdoor space.

The Hyperbaric Chamber

My afternoon began with a session in the Hyperbaric Chamber (30 to 90-minute sessions starting at $75). For the uninitiated, hyperbaric oxygen therapy involves relaxing in a pressurized chamber to breathe in pure oxygen, which dramatically increases oxygen absorption in the blood. It’s highly sought after for accelerating tissue healing, boosting cognitive clarity, reducing inflammation, and supercharging cellular repair.

Now, I dare say I’ve tried almost every spa offering under the sun, but this was my very first time in a hyperbaric chamber. Unfortunately, shortly after the session began and the chamber started to pressurize, my ears began to feel congested, similar to severe airplane pressure.

It was a gentle, real-world reminder to always listen to your body, know your personal limits, and stop if something feels off. I signaled the staff, and they could not have been more understanding, compassionate, and accommodating. They immediately safely depressurized the chamber, helped me out with a warm smile, and seamlessly transitioned me to the next phases of my recovery journey.

Next-level recovery: stepping inside the hyperbaric oxygen chamber.

The Dry Warm & Cold Floats and CurvaLounger Balancing Session

Next, I experienced the Dry Warm Float (30 minutes starting at $75), floating weightlessly in a warm, dry cradle of gentle, rhythmic vibrations. It completely tricks your body into feeling entirely gravity-free, instantly easing deep muscle tension and quieting a busy mind — pure, blissful "nap time" for adults.

I followed this with a quick 5-minute session in the Dry Cold Cryo Float (3–8 min starting at $30). The crisp temperature contrast was wonderfully refreshing, and the best part of both dry float experiences is enjoying all the restorative benefits of weightless float therapy and cold recovery before your main treatment without having to change into a swimsuit or deal with wet hair.

Dry Float = weightless warmth, gentle vibration, and total stillness.

To top off the sequence, I paired the floats with a Custom CurvaLounger Balancing Session (30/60 min starting at $50).

Snuggled under a weighted blanket and wearing a specialized brain-boosting headset designed to lull brainwaves into a meditative theta state, I reached a level of deep relaxation that usually takes hours of meditation to achieve.

Deep rest meets high-tech recovery — featuring Brain Boost entrainment, compression, and zero-gravity warmth.

The Therapeutic Recovery Massage

To ground all of the high-tech wellness, I finished my treatment block with a 60-minute Therapeutic Recovery Massage (60 minutes, starting at $200). My therapist was absolute magic, seamlessly targeting the lingering tightness in my shoulders and lower back from the drive down.

Every detail of the delivery was expert — from the precise hot towel placement to the flawless draping and intricate footwork. It was the ultimate hands-on contrast to the tech-forward lounges.

The Afterglow

I wasn't quite ready to leave this desert sanctuary, so I extended my spa day by sweating out any remaining toxins in the pristine sauna, followed by a quiet moment of reflection in the indoor/outdoor longevity relaxation spaces.

After a quick stop back at the retail boutique to grab a few wellness treasures to take home, I floated back upstairs to join my family.

We wrapped up our perfect Southern Utah evening swimming in the resort's heated outdoor pool, soaking in the hot tub under a canopy of desert stars, and enjoying a spectacular dinner at one of the resort's premier restaurants.

Whether you are a local Utahn looking for an unmatched wellness escape, a golfer in need of serious muscle recovery, or a luxury traveler seeking the cutting edge of spa science, Plume Spa & Wellness at Black Desert Resort is an absolute must-visit and I am already planning my next trip back.
