The deep soak of the Stillness Bath promotes a natural Zen-like experience designed to indulge the senses, quiet the mind and provide full relaxation. It features a clean minimal exterior with a warm, soft interior surrounded by a Hinoki wooden mote that creates a spa ecosystem inspired by the beauty of natural surroundings, similar to sunrise at sea or a walk through the forest. 

The treatment begins with freeze-dried seawater flooding in from the bottom of the bath, gently overflowing into the surrounding Hinoki wood moat. Full spectrum lighting then surrounds the bath, creating a chromotherapy experience while cool fog mixed with essential oils hovers gently above the surface of the water, immersing the bather in a full-body sensory experience designed to relax the mind, soothe the body, and renew the spirit.

What inspired the idea for this treatment? 

The Stillness Bath was designed to replicate the Zen-like experience of traditional Japanese forest bathing. When incorporating the Bath into a treatment at Kohler Waters Spa, we wanted to honor those traditions and create an experience that replicates the feelings of serenity and well-being that often come from spending time in nature. Tell us more about how the Stillness Bath incorporates elements of Japanese forest bathing.

The Japanese term shinrin-yoku translates to “forest bathing” or “absorbing the forest atmosphere.” Interestingly, the term doesn’t refer to actual bathing, but simply encourages people to spend time in nature and immerse their senses in the sights and sounds of nature. It’s a tradition that promotes mindfulness, relaxation and living presently.

The Stillness Bath treatment at Kohler Waters Spa incorporates sensory-invoking elements that you can experience in nature. The treatment combines light therapy, hydrotherapy, aromatherapy and sound to provide a fully immersive sanctuary experience.
