The 43-story Shangri-La Far Eastern, Taipei, the first modern luxury property in Taiwan opened in 1994, remains a standard-bearer among five-star Taipei hotels, thanks to its expansive and continuously evolving food and beverage program, curated interiors, and attentive service that make it equally beloved to international leisure and business travelers and locals who appreciate its balance of tradition and modernity along with its central location in the Da’an District.
The ongoing efforts on the part of the ownership and management to keep the hotel relevant are impressive, with fresh updates on the furnishings, color palettes, and amenities that are both in sync with the needs of modern travelers and respectful of its enduring status as a Taipei landmark in its own right...even as it overlooks the iconic Taipei 101.
Throughout the 420 spacious guest room-property, it boasts panoramic views that frame the skyline or the natural mountains and valleys surrounding the city, which itself reflects balance between urban living and Taiwan’s natural assets.

The Marco Polo lounge and its new outdoor pool area also benefit from the surroundings. There are also small gems sprinkled throughout the hotel, including the striking “Along the River during the Qing Ming Festival” installation by Taiwanese artist Shen Cheen at the reception. The silk canvas is embellished with natural amazonite gemstones, echoing the hotel’s ongoing commitment to treating guests like royalty.
Even with several superb restaurants whose décor is as captivating as their menus, the crown jewel is MICHELIN-listed Cantonese restaurant Shang Palace, which offers an impressive selection of vegan and vegetarian options along with its classic menus.
The hotel received an extensive renovation leading up to its 30th anniversary, and one of the more recent upgrades was the implementation of the SOCIE Spa on the 40th floor, introducing a wide range of body and facial treatments from the Japanese luxury spa brand. Interiors blend Japanese and British sensibilities, with traditional furnishings rendered in rich robin’s egg blue and gold textiles.
We caught up with Spa Manager Lizzie Cheng, who shared her personal insider trips, thoughts on treatments exclusive to the spa, authentically local food and beverage offerings, and more.

Why You’ll Love It: The ultimate spa experience is crafted by combining ESPA aromatherapy, originating from the UK, with the exquisite, professional techniques of Japanese beauticians. We curate exclusive treatment offers for in-house guests every quarter. Additionally, special add-on spa privileges are available through the hotel's official online booking system.
The spa also features an extensive retail display with high-end products. [Photo courtesy of Shangri-La Far Eastern, Taipei]
Key Features: The hotel's Spa rooms are equipped with a shower room, a sauna facility, and a Jacuzzi for our guests' exclusive use.
Insider’s Tips: If this is your first visit to our spa, we suggest starting with our signature Aromatherapy Massage — a personalized treatment combined with ESPA’s natural body oils, designed to bring your body, mind, and spirit into perfect harmony and relaxation.
Another little secret we love to share with our guests is this: we recommend scheduling your spa treatment during the most relaxing, unhurried moments of your journey. Our team is happy to consider your travel itinerary and suggest the best time for your session, so you can fully enjoy both sightseeing and a beautiful spa experience.

Snacks Served: Considering that our guests travel from various places, we hope they can also enjoy a “fifth sense” (taste) experience after their treatment. Therefore, we offer a selection of snacks and beverages that vary with the seasons.
During the summer, we feature local Taiwanese favorites such as Aiyu jelly and grass jelly. In the winter, we naturally provide warming options like Red Bean soup or White Fungus soup.
Our beverage selection includes representative drinks such as caffeine-free options, as well as Taiwanese Black tea and Oolong tea with caffeine, catering to the choices of our relaxing travelers.

Splurge Treatment: We recommend the Shangri-La Signature Treatment, which combines an aromatic energy massage with a body wrap, exfoliation, and custom aromatherapy (via a choice of Detoxifier, De-Stresser, Muscle Relaxer, Jet-Lag Reviver, Immune Booster or Energizing add-ins). This treatment provides profound stress relief while simultaneously maintaining beautiful skin texture.
The spa also offers Ayurveda and Shirodhara treatments. [Photo courtesy of Shangri-La Far Eastern, Taipei]
Unique Treatment: Our most unique treatment is the Hydra-Glow Energy Facial, exclusive at SOCIE Spa, Shangri-La Taipei. Specially developed for busy travelers, this revitalizing treatment combines Japanese massage techniques with French high-concentration hyaluronic acid serum and Japan’s TBC hydrating mask. It delivers an instant boost of moisture, leaving your skin deeply hydrated, radiant, and glowing with vitality.
Among the spa’s popular treatments is the Deep Muscle Massage, which relaxes the body with the soothing aroma of ESPA oils. [Photo courtesy of Shangri-La Far Eastern, Taipei]
Guests’ Favorite: The Deep Muscle Massage begins with the soothing aroma of ESPA natural body oil to awaken the senses and set the tone for total relaxation. This deep-tissue massage works along the muscle fibers to ease stiffness and tension. It is perfect for business travelers and anyone needing a recharge after a long trip.
