Spa Review: We Tried the DiamondGlow Treatment at Azala Skin Clinic in Miami
Miami is known for its bevy of beautiful people, and at any given time, the waiting room at Azala Skin Clinic is full of these gorgeous, bronzed beauties. Of course, a who's who of Miami's most elite—think influencers, models and designers—frequent the spot, often hiding behind oversized sunglasses and clutching the latest Balenciaga bags. But everyone has one thing on their agenda at this skin clinic: great skin.
With its clean, white minimalistic décor and science-based treatments and product offerings, this hidden skin gem is where those in the know go to rejuvenate, revive, refresh and reinvigorate their complexions, be it year-round or while in the sunshine state for a weekend jaunt.
Finding Azala Skin Clinic is like finding the best speakeasy in town—you know it's there, but you don't know exactly where it is unless you're a regular. The hidden skin oasis is perched atop a nondescript building in the heart of Miami's Coconut Grove. In every sense of the word, Azala Skin Clinic is an authentic wellness destination for the skin. The white walls of the tranquil space are outfitted with the big guns of the medical-grade skincare industry—think ISDIN, SkinMedica, Skin Better Science, Neova, Alastin, and more.
Then, there are the anti-aging skin and wellness treatments, which owner and founder Paula Brezavscek hand sources to ensure they integrate the latest technologies and the most effective solutions. The menu of services includes Botox, Dysport, fillers, Kybella, Sculptra, PDO threads, and a bevy of advanced facials customized to your skin's needs, intended to allow you to return to your daily routine without any downtime. Plus, the mantra at Azala Skin Clinic is that healthy skin and wellness begin from within, which is evident in the glowing skin that continually emerges from each treatment room—and the ear-to-ear smiles on each client’s face that accompany it.
On the hot summer day I visited Azala Skin Clinic, I was treated to the DiamondGlow facial treatment, which my skin desperately needed. I spent most of the summer in the dry yet cool Colorado mountains and had just returned to the humidity of South Florida. Armed with a small army of blemishes, a t-zone packed with oil, and patches of redness and dryness, my skin was never more ready for a deep-down cleanse.
My aesthetician, Adriana, greeted me and whisked me back to her pristine treatment room. There, I slipped under a comfortable sheet and a plush blanket on top for added warmth. Adriana’s velvety-soft hands would grace my face for the next hour, but before starting, she thoroughly explained every last detail of what the DiamondGlow encompasses before examining the current state of my skin. Then, she got to work.
Simply put, DiamondGlow is a modern-day general dermabrasion facial treatment that gently yet effectively removes the uppermost layers of skin while delivering a dose of topical serums into the skin. I like to think of the non-invasive, non-irritating, painless treatment as the ultimate glow-getter, and here’s why: unlike other facial treatments that suction debris, dirt and oil from the skin, the DiamondGlow features a 3x1 Technology.
This unique technology allows the machine to exfoliate the uppermost layers of skin and, simultaneously, extract debris from the pores. Then, one of several nourishing SkinMedica Pro-Infusion Serums (one of my favorite professional-grade skincare lines) is delivered into skin for long-lasting hydration and benefits. Basically, it’s three treatments in one using a single pass and can be performed across the entire face—even around the eyes and lips—and the chest.
First came a gentle cleanse. Then, after my skin was as clean as a whistle and all my makeup was thoroughly removed, Adriana let the machine do its thing. A high-power suction gives a deep-down pore cleanse (much deeper than what the fingertips and cleanser can achieve). To my surprise, this part of the treatment was quite enjoyable and relaxing.
As the treatment name suggests, the handpiece features a precision diamond tip—it’s not rough or uncomfortable on the skin, nor does it hurt or pull. There are six different diamond tips and five unique and highly effective SkinMedica serums to choose from depending on skin type and needs.
Together with my aesthetician, we chose to go with the SkinMedica HA5 Hyaluronic Acid serum for instant hydration and plumpness, which my skin desperately needed. When I looked in the handheld mirror post-treatment, my skin emerged rejuvenated, hydrated, and healthier-looking. It was as if my skin drank up a pool full of the most pristine moisturizing water—even my cheeks had a beautiful fullness. As a bonus, there’s even an at-home SkinMedica skincare regimen you can choose to follow to maintain that healthy glow we are all forever chasing.
Like so many other skin-refining treatments, Diamond Glow works well as an individual session, but the best results are seen with a series of treatments. Although I only had one treatment, my skin instantly emerged brighter, softer, clearer, and way more glowy—I could even see the “gunk” that Adriana extracted from my skin in the clear canister where it was housed.
While a few lines and wrinkles were still present due to an overdue Dysport appointment, the treatment definitely improved my skin's texture and appearance. It even looked plump and glowy for days afterward—I could ditch the highlighter and show off my natural skin. And that’s a win-win in my book.
