Spa Profile: milk + honey
milk + honey is an award-winning spa brand that has six locations in Texas and one in Brentwood, California. All of the spa’s locations offer the brand’s full range of therapeutic massage, body, facial, nail, wax, and lash treatments, as well as a complete menu of medical aesthetic treatments.
Founded by Alissa Bayer, milk + honey debuted its eponymous line of hyper-clean, non-toxic, and effective bath and body products in 2013. Then in 2019, milk + honey introduced its skincare collection, which is featured throughout many of the spa’s signature treatments. It’s also available at Neiman Marcus in Beverly Hills and Newport Beach, as well as at all six Erewhon locations.
The architecture of milk + honey spas is fundamental to the brand’s success with designs that are thoughtful, functional, and welcoming. While all of the locations share similarities, each one has its own personality, energy, and aesthetic. The Brentwood spa features a stunning 6,000-square-foot interior that includes 13 treatment rooms, three soak-less pedicure stations, two manicure stations, a relaxation lounge, steam showers, and more.
We interviewed Bayer, who shared details about milk + honey’s amenities, recommended treatments, and more.
Why You’ll Love It: Our people! We have the most amazing team of humans that have decided to share their careers with us. They are the real magic behind milk + honey and I feel so blessed that so many amazing people have found their way to us.
The purpose of milk + honey is to make people feel good, and having happy, kind, and friendly people on our team is the best way to make our clients feel good too. You can feel it when you walk through our doors. We also put a lot of thought and attention into the design of our spas as well. We want them to be warm and comfortable, and to provide your brain with an opportunity to wind down—and the architecture of our spas supports that.
Key Features: Steam showers, locker rooms, robe and slipper service, spa water, hot tea service, light refreshments (fruit and nuts), relaxation lounges, and of course, friendly service.
Insider’s Tip: If you can afford the time and extra money, always go for a longer massage. Our spas are open late so I love going at night and rolling right into bed after a relaxing massage. I also arrive early to allow extra time for a pre-massage steam. And don’t shower off those massage oils—let them soak in and nourish your skin.
Bonus: When it comes to creating our physical spaces, we go the extra mile to create a safe space to unwind. Our lounges are phone-free, decorated with beautiful art, and have a jar where we collect notes of gratitude that we encourage our guests to leave. We save all of those notes and embed them into the walls of new locations, along with crystals according to the Feng Shui Bagua map. Whenever I feel out of sorts or need a mood boost, I can just read through some of the gratitude notes and it’s impossible not to feel better.
milk + honey clients also earn VIP points, enjoy complimentary birthday add-ons, and receive handwritten thank you cards from our service providers.
Snacks Served: As part of our current safety enhancement protocols, we do not currently offer snacks and beverages. When it is safe to do so, we will reintroduce our fresh spa water, hot tea selection, and light snacks that include dried fruit, almonds, apples, and oranges.
Unique Treatment: If you really want to treat yourself, I recommend the Spa Partisan Treatment. It begins with a full-body brushing followed by a scrub that’s made in-house with coffee, brown sugar, and crushed almond. Next, you’ll receive a scalp massage while you steam under a canopy. Afterwards, you’re showered off and hop on to a warm, dry table for our Signature Massage. It’s a dream.
We also recently introduced our milk + honey Facial—a customized experience that includes cleansing, toning, exfoliation, masque, extractions, massage, and intense moisture using only our hyperclean, esthetician-developed milk + honey skincare line.
Splurge Treatment: If you want to invest in a really effective facial treatment, I recommend trying Hydrafacial. All of the Hydrafacial treatments incorporate hydra-dermabrasion, painless extractions, and an infusion of powerful, nourishing nutrients. You can upgrade your Hydrafacial experience to include lymphatic drainage, LED therapies, DermaBuilder Treatment, and ReGen GF™ Treatment.
We are also thrilled to have recently introduced Medical Aesthetics treatments. Our laser treatments (BBL and Moxi) yield incredibly transformative results. BBL Photofacial is a corrective phototherapy treatment that uses Broadband Light (BBL) to target signs of aging, sun damage, and other skin conditions. You can learn more about our laser treatments on our site here.
Insider’s Favorite: There’s nothing like visiting for a relaxing Signature Massage, and if you ask me, 60 minutes is never enough. Adding that extra time allows you to melt into the table and completely unwind. But of course, I love a good facial too. I love how our facials are both transformative and relaxing.
Featured Products: milk + honey uses their own brand of hyperclean, non-toxic, and effective bath and body products, which debuted in 2013. In early 2019, after six years of testing, formulation, and development alongside their team of estheticians, milk + honey introduced its skincare collection which is featured in many of the spa’s signature treatments.
We also love to discover and introduce our clients to third-party brands that align with our ingredient standards and values. Some of our favorite wellness and beauty brands are OSEA, Moon Juice, Golde, and Virtue Labs.
