We chatted with Andrea Dunham, Director of Spa Operations at Shangri-La Hotel, Toronto, who shared details about the spa’s amenities, treatment recommendations, special spa bonuses, and more.

Why You’ll Love It: Guests of Miraj Hammam Spa truly enjoy the Moroccan-inspired atmosphere. Our design is architecturally inspired by historical and cultural influences from Paris, Marrakech, and Istanbul. We have truly tried to create an escape without ever having to leave the city.

Key Features: Being located within the stunning Shangri-La Hotel, our guests have access to the incredible Health Club and water facilities. Located just across the hallway from the spa on the Wellness Floor, our guests will find the pool, hot tub, infrared sauna, and steam rooms. Guests who join us for 75 minutes or more in spa services can enjoy these facilities complimentary!

Miraj also has a Moroccan-inspired relaxation lounge for our guests to enjoy before or after their treatments. The room is co-ed and we always recommended relaxing as long as possible!

Snacks Served: In our relaxation lounge we offer a variety of teas for our guest to enjoy. In addition, we have added a crystal-infused water with a blend to enhance wellness and relaxation. The Gem Water decanter uses clear quartz and rose quartz to improve balance and focus. Guests can also enjoy a selection of dried and fresh fruit.

Bonus: Following all of our spa services, our Spa Therapists will serve our guests a gold platter of baklava, grapes, and our signature Miraj Tea, which is traditional to the Middle East. We have blended refreshing mint tea with the aromatic spices of chai, and it’s delightfully sweetened just like those you would find in Morocco!

Insider’s Tip: We always recommend booking our private Hammam Steam room prior to any service. The detoxification benefits prior to a massage or facial will enhance the results of the treatment. The Hammam is a two-chamber steam room with two degrees of intensity. The high intensity is set at 118 degrees for maximum detoxification and is infused with eucalyptus for additional relaxation. Guests can also enjoy the lower intensity steam area, which is set at 95 degrees if they still want to detoxify but may not enjoy the intensity of the high chamber.

Guests can relax in the spa’s co-ed Moroccan-inspired lounge before or after their treatments.

Unique Treatment: We have recently added a new massage to our offering: the Pain Management Massage is a 75-minute personalized treatment that will target areas in need of release and rehabilitation. It uses a Lightstim Pro Panel that emits an LED warming light to the area that is troubling the guest. This soothing light is converted to energy, which will help to increase circulation and reduce inflammation to temporarily relieve arthritic pain, muscle and joint pain, and stiffness.

Splurge Treatment: If you are looking to splurge on your spa day, we highly recommend our Turkish Bath Ritual! The ritual is done inside our private Hammam steam room and is perfect for those who are looking to maximize their relaxation. This starts with 20 minutes of detoxification in the high steam chamber, followed by a full-body exfoliation using black Moroccan soap and a traditional kessa glove. Guests will enjoy a deep cleanse within a cloud of foam, leaving their skin feeling soft and hydrated. Then they will choose between a hair wash with a nourishing hair treatment or our mineral-infused, full-body Rhassoul Clay Masque.

Insider’s Favorite: My absolute favorite treatment is our Hammam and Gommage! The service is only 30 minutes, but the benefits are incredible. It’s perfect for those who are on-the-go and don’t have hours to spend at the spa. Guests lay relaxed in the Hammam on Jerusalem gold marble and receive an invigorating full-body exfoliation using eucalyptus-infused black Moroccan soap. This experience is considered to be the ultimate detoxification treatment.
