Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa, located 20 minutes from downtown Austin, Texas, underwent an extensive $150 million renovation and expansion.

Just 20 minutes from downtown Austin, Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa is a sprawling luxury resort nestled amongst the hills and trees of Texas Hill Country. The 4,000-acre property underwent a $150 million renovation and expansion, and in addition to 493 newly-designed guest rooms and 50 spacious suites, includes multiple dining options and a 13,000-square-foot spa.

Mokara Spa is the resort’s new sanctuary that draws its inspiration from nearby waterways, creeks, and springs. Amenities include an adults-only rooftop pool and garden that overlook the stunning Hill Country. The spa’s focus is on well-being of the mind, body, and spirit, and offers Austin-inspired signature treatments, salon services, personal journeys, wellness facilities, and more.

At present, Mokara Spa is practicing reduced capacity limits and scheduling modification during COVID-19. PPE is also required for associates and service providers, along with stringent cleaning and disinfecting following each service, in addition to modified treatment protocols to ensure guest and staff safety. We interviewed Spa Director Jackie Flory, who shared insider tips, recommended treatments to try, and more:

Mokara Spa is the resort’s 13,000-square-foot sanctuary that includes an adults-only rooftop pool overlooking the expansive Texas Hill Country.

Key Features: Our spa has a steam room, dry sauna, and whirlpool in both the men’s and women’s locker rooms. We also have a women’s-only lounge area, co-ed lounge, and a spa café. Guests also get access to our rooftop pool the day of their spa appointment.

Spa Snacks: At our Spa Café, we offer a range of cocktails from the classic margarita and mimosa to a raspberry lemonade with vodka, and selection of wines. For non-alcoholic beverages, we have Topo Chico mineral water and a range of sodas. Guests can snack on salsa, guacamole and chips, chicken caesar salad, crudite, a charcuterie board, veggie wraps and fruit cups.

Insider’s Tip: Reserve your services a week or two in advance so that you can receive the most desirable order of treatments and plan enough time to enjoy the amenities. Ideally, you would want to use the steam room and dry sauna before receiving a facial. Facials after massages are also more desirable, for example.

In addition to a co-ed lounge, the spa also has a women’s-only relaxation lounge.

Unique Treatment: Our River Rock Massage. This treatment showcases a unique thermotherapy technique with the use of hot and cold marble stones.

Guests of the spa and resort can also enjoy nail services at the nail salon.
