We interviewed Carrie Sotebeer, Director of Spa, Montage Healdsburg, to learn more about treatments to try, insider tips, and more.

Why You’ll Love It: Without a doubt, the passion of our service providers in Spa Montage makes the most impact on our spa guests. While the architectural design of the resort–which is hidden among rolling hills filled with heritage oak trees and a working vineyard–is magical, we love the comment we hear the most when guests leave the Spa: “(The spa provider/therapist”) delivered exactly what I needed.”

In addition to a state-of-the-art fitness center, guests can enjoy beauty and hair treatments at the full-service Salon Montage.

Key Features: Spa Montage Healdsburg features 11 treatment rooms within the 11,500-square-foot facility. There are separate men’s and ladies’ relaxation lounges with beautifully tiled steam rooms; a full-service Salon Montage; state-of-the-art Fitness Center; and a zero-edge adult pool and hot tub with a co-ed outdoor relaxation area complete with a stone fireplace.

Insider’s Tip: I created our “do not disturb” indicators by hand-beading malas to hang on our treatment room doors. I, personally, find making malas to be a very meditative and peaceful process. I specifically chose black tourmaline for its healing energies: cleansing, purifying and transforming dense energy into a lighter vibration. Physically, black tourmaline helps to strengthen the immune system, balance the left and right hemispheres of the brain, and detoxify the body as well as help with lung issues.

The spa also has separate men’s and ladies’ relaxation lounges.

Bonus: Agriculture is a very important part of the fabric of life and culture in Sonoma County. Taking this into consideration and all the benefits nature provides us, we embrace it every opportunity we can. We are partnering with a local winery that also sustainably farms olive trees, located just 10 minutes from our resort. We use their estate-made olive oil in our signature treatment–the Sonoma Blend massage–which is also our most popular service.

Snacks Served: Living in wine country, a good selection is never far away! We meet our guests with a shot of PureWild Co. at the close of every treatment. The flavor profile is intentionally chosen based on our circadian rhythms. Based out of Ojai, CA and bottled in Sonoma County, PureWild Co. created non-alcoholic beverages where every ingredient sourced is organic and sustainable, and every bottle is infused with marine collagen, for an extra boost of wellness.

PureWild Co. also created a line of wines including a beautiful rosé infused with marine collagen. We share this rosé with our guests to recognize and celebrate their special occasions.

Splurge Treatment: An indulgent treat in self-care would be our Fusion massage for either 90 or 120 minutes. In this artfully crafted body balancing experience, a Montage Therapist selects from a global spectrum of spa therapies and practices to create a unique and comprehensive wellness journey just for you. Together, we will then develop a treatment ritual to address your specific concerns and wellness goals, using the expert touch and training of our therapists to set you on a path of ultimate well-being and renewed vitality.

The spa is infused with the spirit of the surrounding area, including earthy, sophisticated relaxation areas and peaceful treatment rooms.

Insider’s Favorite: If I had to pick a favorite, it would be our Harvest Honey Ginger Infusion Ritual. The rhythm of nature is captured in this garden-to-treatment spa ritual. Warming ginger and mineral salts nourish and exfoliate the skin as a Neroli mist calms the senses. A wrap with vibrant, locally harvested honey delivers powerfully rich vitamins and antioxidants and serves as a natural humectant, capturing moisture within the skin. Cocooned in the warmth of a full-body wrap, smoothed basalt stones are used in a warm and cool alternating massage for the neck and shoulders. The ritual concludes with a ginger and coriander hydration massage.

Unique Treatment: Our ‘Sauvignon Blanc 2022’ treatment is a highly seasonal-specific experience, using natural resources from our own vineyards. This luxurious 120-minute offering polishes your whole body with a hand-crafted mixture made up of the skins and seeds from our property’s sauvignon blanc grapes, which are blended with mineral salts and essential oils infused with grapefruit and black pepper. To enhance the firming and brightening benefits, you are then wrapped in a warm cocoon while the therapist performs a scalp massage. The product is then removed, and a full-body massage is performed.

This is a beautifully unique treatment, created with resources directly from our land–and one in which we will recreate next year when we harvest our grapes for the 2023 vintage.

Guests can also enjoy yoga classes nestled within the resort’s Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards.
