Spa Profile: The Secret Garden Spa at Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui
At Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui in Thailand, guests spend their days relaxing on pristine sandy beaches surrounded by the lush tropical landscape with views of the Gulf of Siam. In addition to luxurious villas, a palm-fringed infinity pool and 24-hour fitness facilities, there are an assortment of other fun offerings such as movies under the stars, a private cinema, cooking and cocktail-making classes, and morning yoga and pilates.
One of the resort’s highlights is The Secret Garden Spa, which is inspired by a “back-to-nature” focus on freshness, clarity and simplicity. Treatments incorporate natural plants and herbs grown on-site, along with ingredients such as lava shells and smooth Thai coconuts that are used as massage tools.
Additional amenities include private outdoor bathtubs and a garden spa pavilion. At the Secret Beach Spa Sala, guests can enjoy any of signature therapies at the private cove in an al fresco setting accompanied by the cool ocean breezes and sound of the waves crashing.
We spoke with Spa Manager Kotchaphan “Fan” Mekloy, who offered insider tips, recommended treatments to try, and more.
Why You’ll Love It: Guests love our spa concept—we use natural and organic healing products, including Thai herbs that are grown in the spa.
Key Features: Two of our spa treatment rooms have an en-suite herbal steam room. All the spa treatment rooms have an outdoor bathtub, which is located in the middle of resort's tropical landscape where guests can listen to the bird songs and relax in privacy.
Snacks Served: We offer two kinds of homemade signature drinks: Rosella Healer Tea and Butterfly Pea Tea. Guests are served complimentary, healthy and low-sugar spa snacks such as a coconut crisp and dried ginger.
Insider’s Tip: A wonderful stress-buster and home remedy I recommend after a long day of walking or standing is to soak your feet in warm water for 15 minutes and apply a rice scrub to relax the feet. The scrub is made from a combination of ground rice, coconut oil and milk powder.
Unique Treatment: Samui Fusion, which was created by our two craftsman male therapists. It’s a dynamic massage combining Thai stretching and a deep technique. We apply a fresh ginger paste on the guest’s back, which helps with blood circulation and brings out heat from the body.
Splurge Treatment: I would recommend our three-hour Tree of Life Ritual. The concept is to bring guests back to their childhood. It starts by cleansing the whole body with natural coconut and Thai honey soap. Therapists steam tamarind leaves to wet the body before massaging with the soap—this was performed by Thai mothers when bathing their children in the old days. A honey and coconut scrub follows, finishing with a Kala Massage where therapists use two small coconut shells (called “kala” in Thai) to massage the guest.
Insider’s Favorite: My favorite treatment is the Secret Garden Massage, where we use steamed herbal compresses called "Luk Pra Kob" made of local Thai medicinal herbs, which help to release tension and stimulate blood circulation. This is followed by a full-body massage with warm oil, which is good for relaxation.
Featured Products: Kerstin Florian is used in our facials and body treatments. Their products and treatments blend spa wellness therapies and nature’s health-giving resources into a holistic approach to well-being.
Secret Garden Spa is our own coconut-based brand. All of the products are organic and include a pure coconut oil, body scrub, face mist, sunscreen, and more.
