Spa Profile: The Spa & Salon at The Del
Located just across the bay from downtown San Diego, Hotel del Coronado is an iconic historic beach resort that was originally established in 1888. The stunning Victorian-style property has undergone extensive renovations and expansion, including the addition of Shore House at The Del, a brand-new residential offering that features 75 seaside villas. The hotel also unveiled Southpoint Event Center, which offers a wide variety of spaces and settings for conferences, events and more.
In addition to beach access and activities, Hotel del Coronado has an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a vast selection of world-class dining options, as well as The Spa & Salon at The Del. A coastal sanctuary that taps into the healing power of the sea, its amenities include a Marilyn Monroe-inspired beauty bar, private spa terrace with a vanishing-edge pool, and an extensive menu of ocean-inspired treatments that are designed to soothe the body, mind and spirit.
We interviewed Michelle Frye, Director of Spa and Retail, The Spa & Salon at The Del, who shared insider tips, treatments to try, and more.
Why You’ll Love It: The Spa at The Del is a coastal California sanctuary where rhythmic ocean waves lead the way to inner tranquility. Reawaken the senses with premium, ocean-inspired spa treatments that will leave an inDELible imprint on your mind, body and soul. The Del taps into the healing power of the sea within a rare beachfront setting on the edge of rhythmic ocean waves.
We wanted to develop a new Ocean-Inspired treatment menu that included unique experiences that create storytelling opportunities and inDELible spa memories for our guests. Our goal is to have every guest walk away saying, “I have never experienced anything like that before.”
Key Features: Men and women enjoy separate relaxation areas with steam rooms and Jacuzzis, and all spa guests can retreat to the Ocean View Spa Terrace with its own infinity pool as they take in the sights and sounds of the Pacific. We really are a one-of-a-kind spa.
Bonus: All of our guests are welcomed with a complimentary Mimosa or glass of champagne. They can also experience wonderful cuisine with our newly launched Spa Café menu.
Snacks Served: Our newly launched spa Café menu features some delectable treats such as the Spicy Tuna bowl, Apricot and Chili Hummus plate and the indulgent Surf and Turf Nachos. We also have a full beverage menu with wine by the glass, cold beer, and amazing cocktails with the Sunset Beach being one of the favorites. In the relaxation area we also have some light nuts and snack mixes along with fresh fruit.
Insider’s Tip: One of the favorite take-home products is the “Lazy Days Wellbeing Bath.” This is the ultimate seaweed bath experience! Once immersed in a hot bath, seaweed will naturally re-hydrate and spring back to life, releasing its soothing and moisturizing properties. Seaweed baths are deeply detoxifying and this centuries-old tradition leaves you with a deep overall feeling of well–being.
Splurge Treatment: All of our treatments can become a more luxurious “splurge” treatment by adding on any of our new treatment enhancements. Guests can add on a Sea Salt Stone experience, Aromatherapy, CDB muscle relief, and a Collagen Eye and Lip mask to create the most pampering indulgent treatment experience.
Unique Treatment: Unlike any other seaweed treatment, our Seaweed Leaf Body Wrap is a truly amazing detoxifying therapy that uses real organic seaweed leaves to scrub and wrap your body. Beginning with a Seaweed Body Buff, this treatment detoxifies, firms, and softens the skin. The body is then wrapped in seaweed leaves and the treatment concludes with a massage using a seaweed, aloe vera, lime, Mandarin and plum seeds to nourish and soften the skin. This treatment tones and firms your skin and helps against the signs of ageing and cellulite.
Insider’s Favorite: My new favorite treatment is our Oxygenating S’mores Facial. Dry and dehydrated skin will be transformed with a complex blend of hydrating peptides and botanicals. Gentle anti-inflammatory enzymes with a sweet cocoa aroma combined with an oxygen treatment will boost circulation while protecting and healing in the skin. Finishing with a marshmallow mask, skin will be deeply hydrated and have a radiant appearance—and it truly smells like s’mores!
Featured Products: We try to carry mainly clean beauty lines such as Eminence Organic Skin Care, VOYA Seaweed based skin and body care, Eufora hair products, and a vegan nail line called SpaRitual. We carry a number of apparel lines as well such as Spiritual Gangster, Beyond Yoga and ALO.
