The Wine Spa is a wine-themed spa in Portland, Oregon that offers vinotherapy treatments.

While leading a group tour of Armenia and the Republic of Georgia through her group tour company, Damesly, Kelly Lewis and her fellow tour-goers were introduced to the concept of a wine spa, rooted in the ancient beauty tradition of vinotherapy that is thought to date to Old-World eras the likes of ancient Rome.

“It’s rumored that Cleopatra herself used to bathe in wine, and that the gladiators did as well,” says Lewis. “So, there I was, sitting in a tub of red wine, thinking, ‘This is the coolest thing ever;’ but also thinking, ‘Why doesn’t this exist in the U.S.?’ I live in Oregon, which is a very famous wine state, and I began dreaming of taking this concept back home, modernizing it, and being able to celebrate and showcase Willamette Valley wines in the process.”

And so, Lewis opened The Wine Spa some 16 months later on Nov. 19, 2024 just northeast of downtown Portland, Oregon. Vinotherapy uses the polyphenols and resveratrol from wine to reduce oxidative stress and inflammation in the body, and is incorporated into The Wine Spa’s vinotherapy packages comprising a soak in a private wine-infused bath, a relaxing massage, and a glass of wine—which can also be made non-alcoholic.

The Wine Spa also partners with local wineries to repurpose unused wine that is the result of overproduction or labeling errors. This practice not only supports local vineyards but also reduces waste, contributing to a more sustainable winery and eco-friendly experience.

Splurge Treatment: Our signature treatment, “The Willamette,” offers guests the ultimate pampering. It begins with a vino immersion, followed by a grape glow body scrub, a 50-minute massage, and an express Caudalie facial. You’ll leave glowy, jello-y, and feeling amazing!

The Vino Immersions include water, epsom salts, botanicals, and red wine.

Insider’s Favorite: Our vinotherapy packages and the vino immersions! It’s just so cool to be able to experience wine by sitting in a tub of it. Our tubs are heated to 102 degrees, have jets, chromatherapy, and aromatherapy aspects. In our tubs is a mixture of water, epsom salts, botanicals, and yes—red wine!

Most Unique Treatment: I personally love the Resveratrol Lift Facial. This treatment uses a firming massage and firming rollers to redefine facial contours while a thermal mask enhances the effects of Resveratrol Lift products. It leaves your face looking sculpted, firm, and glowing.

The spa’s retail area carries a wide variety of items including wine and Oregon-themed products.
