Spa Review: We Tried a Massage, Express European Facial and Desert Oasis Signature Pedicure at St. George Day Spa

Walking into St. George Day Spa for a spa day.

Nestled against southern Utah’s iconic red rock is St. George Day Spa, an award-winning desert retreat. I walked through the doors of the newly renovated spa into a bright open area that had a pedicure and manicure space on my right, and a retail boutique, stairs leading to a loft, and entrance to the spa’s “Whisper Zone” on my left.  One thing that stood out immediately was the ambiance and décor. The entire space is modern and clean, yet still feels comfortable and cozy with a high-beamed ceiling that lets in massive amounts of natural light.

Upon checking in at the front desk, I was taken to the Quiet Room and given a heated neck wrap to set the mood. Both the Quiet Room and nail area have ample snacks set up, including fortune cookies, chocolate, coffee, tea, and water. I snacked on a cookie to kick off my afternoon of relaxation.

My massage therapist, Felicia, greeted me and took me to one of the spa’s 10 treatment rooms for a 25-minute custom massage. After a brief consultation the massage began, and I melted into the heated treatment table as knots in my neck and shoulders were skillfully worked out.

Felicia used a mixture of essential oils, including an orange essence from Plant Therapy, which is believed to ease tension. My feet were wrapped in warm spa towels for added comfort. I received an “add-on” application of doTerra Deep Blue Oil, and felt an immediate tingling as the soothing mixture of wintergreen, blue tansy, and peppermint cooled my neck and shoulder muscles.

Next, it was time for a custom express facial. I remained in the same treatment room, and master esthetician Whitney arrived to work her magic on my skin. She turned on the facial steamer as she asked questions about my current skin routine and areas of concern. She used products from Sanitas, Image Skincare, and FarmHouse Fresh to cleanse and exfoliate my skin, then treated me with a mask, serum, SPF, and lip complex. During the mask, my scalp was massaged for dual-action rejuvenation.

Lastly, I enjoyed the Desert Oasis Signature Pedicure, an 80-minute deluxe service. I was escorted from the spa to the pedicure/manicure space where music was playing. I sat atop the massage chair pedicure throne, and was offered another warm neck wrap while I dipped my toes into the foot bath (and enjoyed a second fortune cookie!)

The pedicure featured a slew of products from FarmHouse Fresh, including an earthy mud mask to channel the desert feel. FarmHouse Fresh’s Honey Heel Glaze, a holy-grail product for many of the staff and clientele, was brushed on the bottoms of my feet to exfoliate and moisturize using fruit enzymes, honey, and vitamins. A dreamy, marshmallow-scented shea butter balm was then massaged into my hands and feet, followed by an application of warm mittens and booties.

After a glorious hot stone leg and foot massage, my toes were painted a pretty neon color that I picked from SpaRitual. Even if the cold keeps me bundled up, I love that my feet can still feel like Spring!

I appreciated being able to sample a few different services during my visit, which St. George Day Spa makes possible with their many spa packages at varying prices. Before and after my treatments, I browsed the retail products and gifts available for purchase, and checked out the incredible Selfie Station equipped with seasonal props. Your photos or GIF can be sent directly to your cell phone afterwards for added convenience.

During my visit, I was able to chat with the spa manager, spa owner, and many of the staff members. Everyone was so incredibly kind and professional, and there was such a wonderful energy to the spa, which is something that I believe is really special.
