To celebrate the launch of Mind+Body Month, I attended Visit West Hollywood’s press conference on August 27, in addition to enjoying an overnight stay at The London West Hollywood and a spa treatment at The West Hollywood EDITION.
The night before the conference I checked into The London West Hollywood, which is located just a few steps away from Sunset Boulevard and major attractions such as the iconic Viper Room, Whisky A Go Go, The Roxy, and others.
Tucked away down a private driveway off San Vicente Boulevard, The London feels more like a private residence and offers guests the ultimate luxury urban retreat. While many of the other hotels on Sunset have a fast-paced vibe, The London is more relaxed and tranquil, providing the opportunity to take a step back from the busy city scene and relax in a modern, upscale setting.
The award-winning hotel has 226 spacious suites with spa-like baths and private balconies that offer stunning views of the city and/or Hollywood Hills. I had the immense pleasure of staying in a One-Bedroom London Suite, which offers the ultimate in space and sophistication.
Features include two private balconies, two luxurious bathrooms (including a master bathroom with a soaking tub), a separate living room with a personal wet bar, and a bedroom with a vanity and mirrored closets.
The London is also the first hotel in the Greater Los Angeles area to offer the Restorative Sleep Experience by Bryte, an AI-powered smart mattress that helps you fall asleep faster and get better quality sleep.
It was my first time sleeping on a Bryte mattress and it was incredibly easy to use. All I had to do was open my phone, scan the QR code from my bedside table, and it went directly to Bryte’s website.
From there, I was able to customize the smart bed according to my personal preferences including changing the firmness/softness of the mattress on my side of the bed, which is done by making targeted adjustments in firmness to remove points of pressure across the body.
Bryte also lets you choose from different multi-sensory experiences pairing various mattress motions with curated audio sounds to help you drift off to sleep. When two people are sharing a bed, they both can use the Bryte app to each control their own sides of the mattress for a personalized sleep experience.
Audio and motion can be experienced together or separately—I opted to try both in order to reap the full benefits. They had many different options to choose from including rolling thunder, evening rain, floating chimes, and various sound compositions such as Ethereal Sleep and Cosmic Rest. They are available in 5, 15, and 30-minute sessions.
After testing out different audios, I chose Ethereal Sleep, which was paired with soft, wave-like motions in the mattress. While lying there with my eyes closed, it felt like I was gently being rocked to sleep. It was incredibly soothing and calming.
Bryte also offers Silent Wake Assist to help you wake naturally before your phone alarm goes off. I chose this option, and the following morning the mattress gradually awakened me with slow, gentle motions without the loud sound of an alarm. It was a nice way to start the day!
I received a Sleep Report via email from Bryte the next morning that analyzed my sleep from the night before. It measured my heart rate, breath rate, and movement to provide insights on my sleep duration, efficiency, and the different sleep stages. It also compared my results to peers, and I was pleased to learn that I ranked in the top percentile for each category.
According to my Bryte Sleep Report, I logged six hours and 50 minutes of sleep, and my sleep efficiency was 94%. It also provided additional details including how much time I spent in each sleep stage (REM, Light, and Deep), how long it took me to fall asleep, as well as how often I woke up during the night.
I was very pleased with the quality of my sleep on the Bryte mattress, and it’s a smart purchase for those that want to invest in better sleep. I hope that more hotels add Bryte to their offerings to further enhance the guest experience!
Prior to going to bed, I indulged in my hotel ritual of an evening bath soak. Bath salts were provided and I also brought a bath bomb with me, so I used both. The tub was deep and spacious, and I especially loved the beautiful black-and-white tile design in the master bath. My muscles felt much more relaxed after a warm soak session and a bath always helps me sleep better at hotels.
Another great amenity at The London West Hollywood is the rooftop swimming pool, which is exclusively reserved for hotel guests. It has cabanas and poolside loungers, and features panoramic views of the city and Hollywood Hills.
The hotel is currently offering Legend and LVE at The London Rooftop, a special dining experience in partnership with LVE Wines by John Legend. Every evening from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., hotel and non-hotel guests can enjoy an al fresco dining experience that includes a three-course prix-fixe menu paired with a curated wine list of LVE and Boisset favorites.
The next morning, I woke up early and enjoyed a complimentary breakfast downstairs at Boxwood Restaurant, the hotel’s main restaurant which serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
The Complimentary Breakfast consists of a generous buffet with an assortment of bagels and toast, pastries, bacon and eggs, potatoes, and more. Additional breakfast items are available to order at an extra charge and the complimentary breakfast is served Monday to Friday from 6:30 to 10:30 a.m., and on Saturday and Sunday from 7 to 10:30 a.m.
After breakfast I checked out of The London and drove over to The West Hollywood EDITION, which was less than five minutes away. I headed to the rooftop where Visit West Hollywood was holding a press conference for the media to celebrate the kick-off of Mind+Body Month.
Many editors and writers were in attendance at the event, and after we had enjoyed an assortment of healthy bites and beverages including fresh wellness shots, several members from the team at Visit West Hollywood spoke to our group and shared the inspiration for Mind+Body Month and encouraged everyone to participate in the month-long initiative.
Visit West Hollywood is a nonprofit organization and a Tourism Business Improvement District that is dedicated to positioning West Hollywood as a vibrant urban oasis. It markets the city as a top destination for visitors and promotes awareness of the city’s unique location, image, businesses, and industries.
After the press conference, members of the media headed to various places across West Hollywood to participate in either a fitness class or spa treatment for Mind+Body Month. I was scheduled to receive a spa treatment at The Spa at The West Hollywood EDITION, which was conveniently located downstairs.
Spa Profile: The Spa at The West Hollywood EDITION
The Spa features a modern and minimalistic aesthetic that instantly calms and relaxes you the moment you walk through its doors. It offers a variety of technology-forward treatments with amenities including a co-ed relaxation lounge, steam room, and sauna.
After changing into a robe, I spent 10 minutes in the steam room followed by the sauna, which helped soften and relax my muscles prior to my massage.
Then I made my way over to the relaxation lounge, which features a neutral color palette and has a snack area that offers infused water and tea, as well as various dried fruit, nuts, and fresh made granola balls.
My therapist came and brought me to one of the private treatment rooms, where I would be experiencing the 50-minute EDITION Signature Massage with an OSEA foot scrub. The massage was personalized according to my desired pressure and incorporated Swedish massage techniques along with oils featuring EDITION’s signature Black Tea scent by Le Labo.
Because my muscles were on the tight side, my therapist used deep, firm strokes to help break up tight fascia and knots. At the end of the massage, he exfoliated my feet using a scrub from OSEA, then removed the scrub with warm, wet towels.
The EDITION Signature massage is also available in an 80-minute version if you want a longer experience, and for an additional charge you can choose from different add-ons such as CBD oil, bamboo sticks, gua sha, hot stones, KNESKO masks, and more.
After my spa treatment had concluded, it was time to head home. I felt relaxed and refreshed, and was ready to get back to work.
I was grateful for the opportunity to participate in Mind+Body Month and the best part about it is that you can curate your own wellness journey to suit your personal needs. Whether it’s a massage, hotel stay, fitness class or something else, there are an endless array of adventures to experience.
Mind+Body Month is a good reminder of the importance of self-care in our daily lives, and it’s also a great opportunity to discover and support local businesses.
