Spa Profile: Grand Resort Bad Ragaz

Grand Resort Bad Ragaz.

Grand Resort Bad Ragaz.

Located one hour from Zurich, the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz in Switzerland is known as the leading wellbeing and medical health resort in Europe. It is also home to a luxurious spa that offers personalized treatments, a legendary Helena pool, and healing spring water from the nearby Tamina gorge.

Centered around a bathing and spa tradition spanning hundreds of years, the five-star luxury resort offers guests individual paths to and opportunities for relaxation, health maintenance and healing. Anna Kristina Bichsel, Director of Corporate Communications at Grand Resort Bad Ragaz, takes us behind-the-scenes at the first-class spa, sharing recommended treatments, key amenities, and more:

The spa is also home to steam baths, a Finnish sauna and a Swarovski steam bath.

Why You’ll Love It: Our guests love the Thermal Spa, which is exclusive to the resort and allows them to rest, relax and heal their bodies. The water also has a variety of important health benefits including helping to reduce narrow blood vessels in the legs, improving blood circulation, reducing blood pressure, alleviating muscle tension, and more.

Key Features: The wellbeing and Thermal Spa at Grand Resort Bad Ragaz offers an extensive array of amenities and treatments, including a staff of about 70 doctors and specialists onsite that oversee everything from physical therapy and detox to stress relief, and more.

The resort features spacious spa suites with floor-to-ceiling windows, personal saunas, color therapy baths, and water from the nearby thermal spring. The spa also features the world’s first Swarovski glass-covered steam room, a Helena thermal pool and a family spa, a sanarium, a salt sauna, and more.

Insider’s Tip: A great insider’s tip for parents looking to add a fun twist to their children’s swimming experience is to check out the mermaid swimming class at the Family Spa, which teaches children how to swim using fun mermaid-like fins. Adults can also partake in the fun as the resort offers adult mermaid lessons upon request.

Bonus: Something guests may not be aware of is our brand-new Family Spa, which caters to our youngest guests by offering them a space to play and fully experience the thermal waters. The Family Spa also includes its own menu of treatments including the “Sweet Honey,” a massage using lavender honey oil; “Funny Choco,” a chocolate back massage; and the “Happy Feet” treatment, a foot bath using natural products that includes nail care and a relaxing foot massage.

Spa Snacks: Guests in need of a quick bite can grab fruit-infused water and snacks like nuts and dried fruits at the Spa. The Tamina Therme located adjacent to the spa also has a cafe where guests can pick up smoothies, fresh juices and other light bites.

The spa offers a range of pampering services and relaxing treatments.

Most Unique Aspect: Grand Resort Bad Ragaz collaborated with Haki creator Harald Kitz to create an exclusive sensory experience for guests. Four restorative treatments were created to help re-establish natural balance and strengthen guests’ emotional and physical wellbeing, and can be enjoyed individually or as a couple.

Guests travel through four sensory rooms, which includes a room of senses that uses darkness to help guests focus on inner mindfulness; a rain hall which uses warm healing thermal waters to cleanse the body; a massage and scrub session; and a room dedicated to tranquility and creativity.

Splurge Treatment: Guests looking to “splurge” on a treatment should experience one of the Altereah Bio programs, which were created in collaboration with the French body care brand. While each program is unique, they are all founded upon helping guests find relaxation, vitality and balance.

Programs include Ragazer Balance (1494 CHF/$1,561 USD), a therapeutic bathing and massage; Ragazer Vitality (1,095 CHF/$1,144 USD), which includes personal training sessions and energy boosting treatments; and Ragazer Relaxation (675 CHF/$705 USD), which features your choice of a pilates or yoga class and anti-stress treatments.

Guests also enjoy lounging by the garden swimming pool outdoors.

Insider’s Favorite: My favorite treatment is the Haki Ritual, which is exclusive to Grand Resort Bad Ragaz. We worked with Harald Kitz, the creator of the Haki philosophy, to design a treatment room that would offer guests a unique immersive experience that helps participants alleviate physical and emotional stress.

Featured Products: The Spa at Grand Resort Bad Ragaz features treatments that use Altearah Bio products, a range of certified organic products that includes body scrubs, serums, body oils and more. Other brands featured in spa treatments include La Prairie, Sisley Paris and Sensai.
